Hi,
I think I've seen bus error on 390 from a specification exception (it
was a few years ago), in particular, when attempting to manipulate a
lock which is supposed to be two-byte aligned, according to the
architecture, when it was actually on a non-two-byte-aligned address
(was wrongly packing a data structure containing the lock). Have you
checked the console for diag output (which would confirm the diagnosis)?
Cheers, Innes.

How quickly does this error result? I've seen cases where
virtual storage exhaustion has resulted in this message.
Normally during a C++ compile, but even so.

I just updated my sles9 (64bit) installation with the June
samba 3.0.14a packages.
Now "net ads join -Uusername" results in the completely
opaque (to me) message "Bus error".
The rpm that shipped with sles9 worked just hunky.
