K.M. If it is available to you (I gather you are not in the U.S.), I really suggest getting the book "Learning the BASH Shell", published by O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. You can visit their web site (I hope) at http://www.ora.com . They have a lot of excellent things at that site, including some free on-line books (the Safari sections) that you could read.
