Hi, David. We do have a CA monitoring tool.
Another sysprog that is working this issue had been watching paging rates and felt we generally have low paging rates, but I will specifically find out what we are monitoring during the transfer. We have 1.6GB defined for the z/VM LPAR. The MTU size is the same on both zLinux guests (MTU 1492), although the x86Linux is defined MTU 1500. We are considering shutting down any other unused zLinux guests on that LPAR (we are in "testing" mode with zLinux) and also, shutting down unnecessary services and rerunning the transfer. We are running z/VM 5.1 RSU level 0402 (and have considered updating the RSU level). This performance is giving us a "black eye" with the distributed side, so any look-at-this or try-this troubleshooting tips are of great value to us. Thanks! Do you have high paging rates during the linux vm to linux vm transfer? How much real memory is on the box? Are the MTU sizes the same on both linux machines? Your variance in times vm-to-vm may point at a resource issue. Also check that you have all service applied. What version/release of zvm? Then, I attempt the same file transfer from on of my zLinux guests to an Intel platform Linux server (also SuSE9) on the network (outside of the IFL). I use the same 684MB file and use FTP to transfer the file from zLINUX1 to x86Linux Results: 1st ftp - 684MB in 1:11 (9.17MB/s) 2nd ftp - 684MB in 1:05 (9.96MB/s) Biggest question, why is the transfer better going out the OSA adapter on the network? I certainly thought the transfer between two guests on the VSWITCH would have at least been equal if not better?? Any suggestions regarding configuration corrections or troubleshooting are greatly appreciated.
