I had a similar situation when installing Redhat AS 4. Similar, but still a bit different, perhaps the solution is common to both.
On the Redhat installation, I'm able to use the VSWITCHes just fine to install the base software. I have no problem starting ssh and VNC to address the installation windows. However, when I ipl the image for the first time after the install I see: HCPIPN2833E Error 'E00A'X adding IP address xx.xx.xx.xx for VSWITCH SYSTEMLANNAME. HCPIPN2833E IP address is already in use on the LAN. (slightly different messages than those you report, but the same message id) I found this fix on Redhat's site: http://fcp.surfsite.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=2086 Basically, it instructs you to add the line 'ARP=no' to the ifcfg-eth0 file and then cycle the network adapter with 'ifdown' and 'ifup'. This did solve my problem, perhaps it will be a clue into solving yours. -----Original Message----- I am new to Linux, trying to install SLES10 under z/VM 5.1. I am trying to use a VSWITCH.
