I did a little test this morning. I found that when I use scp on OpenSUSE 10
the file will get translated, but when I use the PuTTY PSCP command on Windows
XP the file did not get translated. I suspect that there are some versions of
the scp command that do something wrong. Perhaps some scp implementations use
the sftp protocol?

Correct. It still does. And vice versa when going the other direction.
