Thank you for your help. I thought about exactly something like that , you wrote above. In my opinion It will be the only way to do such thing. Theoretically I now how to this but I am not sure how to make such a small starter witch will be able to start from DVD in HMC. Normally in VM I would put kernel.img, initrd and parmfile into a cms minidisk, punch them with a virtual puncher, transfer to virtual reader and than just ipl from a reader.Then I would format dasd with dasdfmt, make ext3 and just copy all the filesystems from another dasd or ftp. In the end I would do a chroot and zipl. But how to do this with HMC and DVD disc? I assume that putting those three files and linux filesystems directly on DVD would not be enough. How to prepare this kind disc with "ipl ability" ? And even If would do ipl, will this small starter linux be able to see HMC dvd drive?
