for Linux, 3390-mod9 formatted in 4k blocks is 3*3339cyls*180*4K/256K=7043MB
or about 6.8GB
and then you lose some of that to mkfs overhead.
for a full mod9 cat /proc/dasd/devices should show about 6.8GB;

Subject: 3390-MOD9

Hi,

A 3390-MOD9 is about 8.5 Gig in size. When I give a RedHat Linux guest
one of these devices Linux recognizes that this MOD9 is only 6.1 Gig.
Where is the rest of the space going?

I am running z/VM 5.3 and my Linux is 4.6 with the Kernel level of
2.6.9-67.

Thanks, Terry
