for Linux, 3390-mod9 formatted in 4k blocks is 3*3339cyls*180*4K/256K=7043MB or about 6.8GB and then you lose some of that to mkfs overhead. for a full mod9 cat /proc/dasd/devices should show about 6.8GB;
