Hi Ron, Thanks for the response. Yes, it is really 6.8G. Does the difference come when the MOD-9 is formatted under Linux or when I format the device under z/VM? I use CPFMTXA on z/VM to format the disk before I give them to Linux. Is this what you do?

This is true regardless of the operating system being used. The recommended blocksize for a Linux under zSeries system is 4K. When I format a 3390-MOD9, I get 6.8GB usable under SUSE Linux.
