Hi Ron,

Thanks for the response. Yes, it is really 6.8G. Does the difference
come when the MOD-9 is formatted under Linux or when I format the device
under z/VM? I use CPFMTXA on z/VM to format the disk before I give them
to Linux. Is this what you do?

Thanks.. Terry

Terry,

The capacity of a 3390 disk is based upon the blocksize of the data that
is on the disk. This
is true regardless of the operating system being used. The recommended
blocksize for a
Linux under zSeries system is 4K. When I format a 3390-MOD9, I get
6.8GB usable under
SUSE Linux.

I do not know why you are getting 6.1GB instead of 6.8 GB.

On my system fdasd shows 150239 tracks. It also shows 4096 bytes per
track.

Hope this helps,
Ron
