Terry, The capacity of a 3390 disk is based upon the blocksize of the data that is on the disk. This is true regardless of the operating system being used. The recommended blocksize for a Linux under zSeries system is 4K. When I format a 3390-MOD9, I get 6.8GB usable under SUSE Linux.
I do not know why you are getting 6.1GB instead of 6.8 GB. On my system fdasd shows 150239 tracks. It also shows 4096 bytes per track. Hope this helps, Ron Martin, Terry R. (CMS/CTR) (CTR) wrote:
Hi, A 3390-MOD9 is about 8.5 Gig in size. When I give a RedHat Linux guest one of these devices Linux recognizes that this MOD9 is only 6.1 Gig. Where is the rest of the space going? I am running z/VM 5.3 and my Linux is 4.6 with the Kernel level of 2.6.9-67.
