I find that I regularly have to roll-in the X3270 fonts and then
re-run 'mkfontdir' in that directory.  It may be that the RPM or other
packaging does this for me (if and when I get X3270 as a distro
formalized package).  But the manual thing works (when I choose to
separate X3270 from the op sys).


The difference is striking.
X3270 without its "real 3270 look-alike" fonts ... well ... it sucks.
>From the tone of your note, Dave, I think you do NOT have the true X3270 fonts.
You may have loaded them, but they're not in the "fontdir" file.
Try running 'mkfontdir'.
