Doesn't this involves adding a stanza in
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules ? (the file location may
differ depending on how udev is configured.. and the file name may also
be different depending on how things are rigged by the distribution..
that example comes from debian/s390).

I think that's where all the ccw/online and ccwgroup automagic is handled..
