The Linux distro DVDs often have symbolic links that are destroyed by Windows-based FTP servers since the Windows DVD drivers don't support symlinks. If you use a Linux or other Unix FTP server, then the file will be duplicated when it is uploaded to z/OS and everything should be ok. (I think the symlinks are there to simplify the build; I don't think Linux installation depends on a single source file. But I don't know for sure.)
