IBM POC is typically 30 days. z/Linux Redhat trial is 90 days.
So if you install and test z/Linux Redhat in a time period before you
begin the POC that will give you more time in your POC for other things.
I found RHEL 6.6 to be easy to install and run in an LPAR.

However I do think something like an IBM Techdoc should have been
made available to define exactly what techniques work and which
options do not work, and why, for each install method (DVD, FTP,
NFS, etc).
