Jake and Roderick,
With respect to DNS usage by Windows, it would
appear that Windows has a mechanism for
using DNS as part of the NETBIOS Name resolution.
If you go on your Win Machines and run WINIPCFG,
and go under MORE INFO, there is an ENABLE for
NETBIOS Resolution via DNS. Looking through
the Microsoft References, I have yet found a
way to turn this OFF, or how it is getting enabled.
