David,

Cool. What you've written here matches the results of some further
investigating I did last night.

Wilson,

I was doing multiple dialins at one time and had a simiilar problem. I
set the server as the IP address of the server and also set the

Yep I tried that and it didn't work

destination network as the IP address after the password entry. There is

Ahha that's possibly the one I needed

in general some strange, or complex, stuff going on based on the user
name alone. If the user name matches and nothing else does the first
entry is the best match. Flip your entries around and test it out.

Yes I have already done this and can confirm that you are correct. However
I don't feel it gels with my reading of the pppd man page. What do you
think ? .... hmmm I probably need to get onto a pppd list.

I may have wound up changing my user name in the end, I can't recall
exactly what I did since I set it up 2-3 years ago.

One thing I have found that works is to use the pppd-option of remotename
<name> which forces a server name and therefore picks the correct entry in
the pap-secrets file. Being a purist though I would prefer if I didn't have
to do anything but rather pppd determine what it's connected to and pick
the correct password.

However if all else fails it looks like I'll be able to use the remotename
option.

Thanks for the reply,

Wilson
