Nevermind, there seems to have been a problem with the BIOS setup.
I did a complete CMOS reset, and now it works.

However, my LIRC remote control doesn't work any more :-(
The strange thing is that the 'xmode2' program that comes with LIRC
works just fine, but neither the 'lircd' nor 'irrecord' appear to work.

I'm afraid I have no clue what this could be...
