I think I had trouble with this once, as86 is contained in an obscure package 
that you need to install in order to compile kernels for legacy architectures 
like the Intel series of processors.

Some distributions make the need for it more obvious than others!

For instance, Debian didn't insist that I install it (through the normal 
dependancy mechanism) even though I installed the kernel-source package!

After all, just because I'm installing kernel-source on an Intel (yuck) system 
doesn't mean that's the architecture I'll be compiling for, does it?
