There's a ton of it. Sendmail is about 18 years old. Many of the Unix shells, especially the C Shell, are older. Some of the pre-GNU components, such as Emacs, have a comparable vintage. Remember, in the early days of Unix, even ATT distributed full source, although we would not consider it "open" by modern standards. As a practical matter, however, many academic environments worked on the Unix source, producing useful things such as BSD. -- Mike
