This is something I'm not quite clear on. I thought that a 'symbol' in
this context would be a single mesurable object. I.e. the voltage of the
signal at a single point in time. If thats the case then the nyquest
frequency isn't involved at all. Am I wrong here? It's been a while
since I've studied signal, and information theory...

True. But it should be possible to do MUCH more then 9600.. :)
I imagine that we could manage to use a higher order QAM if we shoved in
enough forward error correction. :)
Does anyone here know of a site showing S/N ratios for various radio
bands?
