At this point of the debate, one can see we have two kinds of logging
software:
(1) One for DXer, ragchewer or casual ops.
(2) One for contesters ops, competitor or casual.
Specifications are quite different. In the previous thread messages,
Wilbert/ZL2BSJ gave us most of the bells and whistles we have in M$-DOS
software like CT, NA, TR, SuperDuper and like. Many specifications may
look strange for a non contester ham involved in competition, that's maybe
an explanation why most of these sotware are made by top contesters.
On the other hand, the other kind of logging software are done by DXer and
awards collector. They include possibilities of tracing QSO for completing
these awards (CQ, ARRL, etc for the most known).
They are award oriented and may have some lacks for casual operators who
don't need these features but, as said in the thread, would prefer fields
for extra infos.
So, there is at least two kinds of logging software that maybe designed
with completly different specifications. I don't think a universal
software is a good solution because of the trade-off.
