Try to make sure that the PAP authentication box is checked in netconfig. I had
the same problem and this fixed it. Good luck and welcome to linux!

Hi,

I want to build me a PLIP mode 1 cable and took a look in
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/networking/PLIP.txt (what else ;-) ). There
is described the wiring for a usual mode0 cable, where is extra
mentioned, that you have connect for example a on the one side with d
on the other side AND vice versa!
For the mode1 wiring, there is this vice versa not mentioned: there is
wriotten:
2-2
3-3
...
9-9
1-11 <
16-10 <
14-12 <
13-17 <

these marked wirings -- are they to do in the other way, too? I mean
also:

11-1
10-16
12-14
17-13
15-18

Hello, I have 2 major problems with Linux/X Windows that I could use some
help on..

I am currently running 2.2.1 kernel...

I have a cpu with a Creative Graphics Blaster Exxtreme card...I cant seem to
get X windows properly installed on it...whenever I try to run X
windows...the monitor simply turns off and never comes back on... I know
that its not the monitors problem since my ViewSonic G773 is on the X
Windows server list..

Also, I unfortunately have a PCI Modem with plug and play features. It is
not a WinModem...but it is not detected in Linux (I think...minicom cannot
find it...Im not sure how else to test for its presence..other than "cat
cua(0,1,2,3)"...

Anyone who has a solution for any of these problems plz e-mail me at

I'm not getting sound out of my TV tuner card (WinView 601 tv/fm),
just visual. It's a bt848a based card, and I'm using bttv-0.6.3,
xawtv 2.3.5. Soundcard works ok (x11amp etc.), tv tuner works with
sound under Windows 95. Bttv autodetects the card as Miro PCTV.

hi,
I work actually with a Dual-PII , kernel now 2.2.0 and no problem :)
Perhaps it is wrong but I tried xsysinfo with patch for multi-processors
and I saw that kernel works ( when heavy works ) on the first proc and
user app on the second proc. The 2 CPU was about 80% charged (no
saturation).

Hello everybody,

I'm affraid this question has been posted sometime before...
I have a PCMCIA modem (Kingmax 56K, V.90). I can run minicom and connect
properly to my host. But chat is no use: I get no answer from the modem
and it doesn't dial the number. I read somewhere to try

$chat TIMEOUT 3 "" \rAT OK-+++\c-OK AT&D2&C1 TIMEOUT 60 OK ATDTmy_number

and so on...

but for some reason D2 and C1 are not recognized...

Could anyone tell me what this means?
The modem is supposed to work under any OS (as stated in its manual),
provided you have the socket and card drivers... which apparently is the
case since it works properly under minicom.

Thank you very much in advance,

Miguel

When mine wakes up I get this psychedelic mess that bears no relation
to what should be up there. Assuming you've configured it for
multiple resolutions, just switch resolutions back and forth
(Ctrl-Alt-+ and Ctrl-Alt-- on the "keypad"), and you should be back to
normal.

hi,
If you get a pre-fomatted ZIP or format it with window , you must know
that it is the 4th primary partition of the disk which is formatted (
don't know why ).
Also , if your ZIP drive is hdb ( primary slave IDE )
mount -t vfat /dev/hdb4 /mnt/zip
that means you created a zip directory in /mnt and that your ZIP is fat
filesystem.

If you plan to use your ZIP only with linux , I recommend you to delete
( with fdisk ) your 4th part. and create a hdb1 part with ext2
filesystem : you , then , will be able to set owner and chmod for files.
and then mount it as :
mount -t ext2 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/zip

As far as I recall, the LBP460 is a printer driven by Windows software so I

I assume you've properly placed it in your kernel tree and are just
building the kernel.

I had this same problem--the problem was that in the transfer via
netscape (or in the original?), the end-of-line convention got screwed
up, and all the lines ended with CR-LF. This gives problems in the
macro definitions (line continuations). Use emacs to remove the CR's,
and it will compile.

No hard disk (only floppy) will be enough to run a

I would greatly appreciate any help on this one.
