i'd stay away from the minuteman ones. it's nice, but even with a
pin-out i couldn't put together a working cable. the documentation
with powerd lays out the aps models pretty clearly.

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mountpoint (just make a directory)
Assuming that you supported vfat and NLS in the kernel, it
should work.

Subject: AMS Roadster Trident Cyber 9385 setup
Date: 21 Feb 1999 23:49:53 GMT

I am the (somewhat unfortunate) recipient of an AMS Roadster 266MMX
laptop, on which, for work purposes, I have installed Linux (RedHat
5.2).

I managed to get the sound card working (had to do a pnpdump and edit
the config by hand), the Xircom CBE2-100 is unsupported, and X is really
being a pain.

Xconfigurator guesses the correct card, but doesn't seem to want to do a
probe (just returns a failure). The screen is a TFT 800x600 12.1"
screen, and the video is a Trident Cyber9385 with 512k of video RAM.

Apparently, since the probe fails, the entries to XF86Config are made,
but commented out. This is what causes the oft-reported 320x200 mode
(really fugly, BTW) - the video chip is set to "generic", which has a
320x200 mode builtin. I editted the XF86Config by hand, changing
references to the "TG 9660 / Cyber 9385" entry, but I must have the
wrong video modes: when I start this, using 640x480x24, the screen goes
blank (the Xserver still responds to requests, but the display is
obviously incorrectly configured). I tried 800x600x8, but XF86 then
reports no valid modes.

Any info or help would be appreciated.

Hello there,

I can't seem to even get RedHat Linux 5.2 to install because my 3COM
905B-TX is not a supported NIC. I was told that maybe the kernel has
drivers for it, but as for installing it, I don't know what to do.

Is there any UNIX based OS that I can install from FTP with a 3COM
905B-TX?

Is there anyway to get a driver for the Linux installation?

Thanks.

Hi !
There are two types of the Netgear FA310TX cards out there :
- Old ones use the DECchip 21140 chipset which is supported by the Linux
"tulip" driver
- Newer ones use a Netgear chipset, which is compatible to the DECchip 21140
to SOME
extent. You can download a customized tulip driver from the Netgear homepage
and
compile it yourself, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Some messages flashed by briefly a little while ago about HP printers

upgrading an OfficeJet (560 I think) about 6 months ago, which was a
dismal failure. I don't know what to say. It seems that HP has opted

but I'm skeptical of buying another HP now.

But I've got a pb when I tried make it a diskless station with bootp !!!
I wanted to use etherboot 4.0 and when my PC boot , after downloading
the bootimage , It says no SMP support !!!
Have you any idea about this pb ?

Their is no driver on 2.2.1 kernel for Prosignia VS. If you have any other
SCSI controller like 810,825,875 (All PCI) you can use these to install Linux

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Where is eth0 - Netgear FA310TX - RH5.1
Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 08:57:30 GMT

I could really use some help if anyone has any ideas. I have sifted through
all the docs that I can get my eyes on without any luck. I'm not even sure if
the problem is with my BIOS or LINUX configuration.

Here is the story...

Netgear FA310TX PCI fast ethernet card with Lite-On "PNIC" chip.

I installed RedHat 5.1 - no problems selected tulip as network card, it
accepted that, and continued through install.

After boot, I find no /dev/eth0, but I do find out that my card is not
supported by that older tulip driver. So...

I then compiled, with gcc 2.7.2.3, the updated tulip driver that ships with
the Netgear card. This has added support for Netgear card. Replaced the old
tulip.o with the new one.

After swapping in the new tulip.o, and checking dependencies, I get message:
  /lib/modules/preferred/net/tulip.0: unresolved symbol(s)

Huh?

After boot, there is still no /dev/eth0.

Checked /var/log/dmesg, and there is nothing in there referring to my ethernet
card. There is a message that is "Probing PCI Hardware."

Checked /var/log/messages, and I think it indicates that the module loaded
correctly with the following messages
  tulip.c:v0.89k 8/8/98 Modified for Netgear
  eth0: NETGEAR MGMC169 MAC at 0xd000, 00 a0 cc 3d df b7, IRQ 0
  eth0: Checking for MII transceivers...
eth0: MII transceiver found at MDIO address, config 1000 status 7809

Disturbing here is the IRQ 0, but at least, it read the hardware address, and
found the transceiver. Is IRQ 0 ok? Shouldn't my BIOS have assigned another
IRQ?

/proc/interrupts shows IRQ 0 used by the timer, no entry for eth0
/proc/ioports shows d000-d0ff for eth0

Again, my system does not show a /dev/eth0.

my conf.modules does contain the line, as put there by RedHat install:
  alias eth0 tulip

lsmod lists no modules loaded, so I insmod tulip, and I see the messages
indicating that all is well, and the Netgear modified driver is loaded

now, lsmod shows the tulip module. I again check /dev/ to see eth0. Not
there.

ifconfig shows only the loopback interface

ifconfig eth0 does show the interface info, MAC address, and Base IO address.

ifconfig eth0 up returns error:
 SIOCSIFFLAGGS: Resource temporarily unavailable

I am lost. If anyone can shed some light on the problem with the module
dependencies, or the assigned IRQ for the card, I am grateful.

Josh

That one will probably do the trick. And then add an entry for your zip
drive to your /etc/fstab file ... like:

/dev/sda4 /mnt/zip vfat user,exec,dev,nosuid,rw,noauto 0 0

Then you can mount your zip drive as a user just with "mount /mnt/zip".
Or you can even write a little script for it.
