This might be obvious, but there are no hidden ppp scripts or
configuration files with AT commands that worked with your old
modem and are resetting the other configuration work you are
doing?

the baud_base # should be set to the maximum speed that the chip is capable
of which is ? ( maybe 460800? with luck) on a 16550? If you set the
baud_base to the 460800 #, then set the baud_divisor(might not be quite
right terminology) to 2, AND then set the spd_cust in that same setserial
line, then it'll 'theoretically' work at 230400 when you use the baud rate
of 38,400. Don't look at me like that :) I didn't right the stuff. I've got
a 16750, top speed 961,200, and i've got to use baud_base=961,200,
baud_div=4 and spd_cust in setserial and then .. set the baud rate in the
app to 38,400 and then I get 230,400.. This is starting to sound like a math
class. yikes --
i suppose the other thing is that even after you get this thing to work (as
in AT # cmds) , it's still going to probably be unreliable since the fifo is
so small on a 16550. I think that most people who want to have DTE speeds of
230K or more end up getting 16650's (16 byte fifo i think) or 16750 (64 bit
fifo) or else you just run the risk of losing data because too many
characters pile up before the ISR can empty out the fifo buff.
the reason i've got the 16750 is because i couldn't get this stuff to work
on a 16550, or at least, not reliably but I hope that's of some use.

I'm tring to install Redhat 5.2.
I've been doing TONS of reading but I cannot seem to finish the
installation.
I get stuck at the part for Configuring the clock. I can't seem to
figure out what it could be. I can't create an bootup disk or install
lilo or that matter.
Does anyone here have this configuration and sucessfully installed
Redhat 5.2?
Asus P2bds with AIC 7890
Ultrastar 09U and 09Y (both SCSI of course)
Jaz 1G external and Zip100M external (both SCSI)
I have already Downloaded the newest boot.img and supp.img from Redhat
which is suppose to make Redhat install my SCSI AIC 7890.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I've spent the better part of the
day reading but to no resolution.

Hello all,
I am looking for camera (webcam) on parallel port
(USB is not yet supported for webcam under LINUX) working with Linux.
This camera should have resolution off 640*480 pixels in still images mode
and should
be easy to find in France.
The things I have read on this topic says that only the connectix Quickcam
is supported. is this right ?
Are there other webcam which are supported by linux and software
developpment kit V4L (video for linux) ?
Please answer by mailing at :[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think you'd have to install Windoze first and then lilo because
windoze overwrites your MBR. But be sure you've got a linux bootdisk
or install loadlin first on your windoze drive before you install any

Go through the link members.home.com/nickoljt/ and find the links page.
You'll see a number of links to small linuxes that can be loaded from floppy
disk.
Pocket Linux is the best, IMHO, and has the facility to set up network
connections at boot time. Most hardware is probed and found at boot time as
well.
Hope this helps.

Youngser,
Thank you for your response (albeit somewhat
delayed) to my posting.
Since posting my distress-call article, I've
compiled a new kernel with parallel-port printing
enabled. Since then I've had no problem printing.
Lp1 has been completely cooperative.
I still have no explanation for the phantom
printer driver. All I know is that when the
problem happened, lp1 didn't appear at bootup, and
now it does. Cat /proc/devices displays lp1 now,
where it didn't before. I wish I could say that it
was due to my imagination that I was able to print
prior to first running ghostscript. But I'm afraid
that I can't -- I remember being able to print at
least once before then.

You need SCSI for xcdroast to work. Recompile your kernel with SCSI emulation
for IDE enabled and don't forget to enable generic SCSI support as well.
This will probably solve your problem.

Hi!
i'm trying to set-up the modem on linux box and failed up to now...
Computer configuration: P166/32MB, OS: RedHat 5.2, kernel 2.0.36
peripherals: mouse on com2, nothing on com1, sb16. no printer.
Modem: dynamode 33.6 internal isa. The modem has a PnP jumper.
If i leave it "on", modem catches com3, i can see it both in the bios
config and in linux when doing setserial -g /dev/ttyS2, it shows uart,
seems to be ok. Modem catches and irq 4, so conflicting with com1, but i
have nothing there. I've also tried to change the irq to 5 (using
setsertial), it changed, but doesn't helped. /proc/ioports and
/proc/interrupts shaw no conflict. When i enter minicom it hangs for a
_minute-two_, then tried to display the init string, failed and i forced
to reset and quit.
i've also tried to remove the jumper and to manually configure modem on
com3, no result. Any help will be _greatly_ appreciated!
(please, CC: to e-mail).
Thanks a lot!
