Thanks a Lot for the fast answer, my news sever only has the last 200 messages
on it so I was not able to see the old post on this topic. I should have
looked through the FAQ index before posting.

Hi,
Does anyone know what the maximum memory capacity for RedHat Linux 6.2
and other versions of linux is?
I am thinking of buying a ASUS CUR-DLS Series (ATX, 133MHz FSB) board
that can support 4G of memory with 2 CPUs.
Thanks

Put the "Display" you want to normally run (default) first in the list (note
1280x1024 @ 32bpp does not exist in your config so use 24bpp)
This should do it.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
SubSection "Display"

EndSubsection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

You could explicitly define the bpp required as an arguement to startx etc
Something like startx --bpp 24 I think.

Peter.

As far as I know your SCSI controller card should support software
interrupt 13, if it doesn't, than fdisk doesn't work correctly on SCSI
drives.

Palm apps seem to work fine under VMWare (assuming Linux and VMWare

I'm not positive, but I recall seeing a kernel compile option to support
this. Go through a mockup kernel config, and see if you find that in one
of the options...I know there is something related to that.

I'm not sure what version of win you're using, but if it's win9x then you could
just make a linux.bat file containing something like as follows:
c:\loadlin\loadlin d:\redhat\kernels\vmlinuz.dvd mem=256M
root=/dev/hdb3 ro vga=3
(where vmlinux.dvd is eventually the kernel you actually have
made and require, but at first can be any generic kernel,
and where /dev/hdb3 works out to partition 3 (or whatever) on
second physical drive where
primary master = /dev/hda , slave = /dev/hdb , sec mast =
/dev/hdc and sec slav = /dev/hdd)
then use config.sys & autoexec.bat to make a little 2 or 3 choice menu, one
for win, maybe one for dos, and one for linux.
then again<g> if it's win 2k I'm not so sure how you'd do this or if loadlin
even works from there.

Well, then the system holds off and does the copy in the background when
it has time. If you remove the floppy before it gets around to
doing/finishing the copy the buffer is "dirty."
sync
forces the write (rather than waiting).
(there is a manual page for sync)
(Windows caches reads and not writes unless you change the defaults.
Linux caches both. You have to be careful on a system which
caches writes.)

Well, you need a SCSI "interface" but not a SCSI card. And you can get
cdrecord (xcdroast is a graphical front end for cdrecord which is command
line) to work with your drive.
The trick is to make Linux think it is a SCSI drive (you can do it with
modules or recompile the kernel:
REMOVING IDE-CDROM support
ADDING:
SCSI support
SCSI CD ROM drive support
Generic SCSI driver (with vendor extensions)
SCSI emulation of IDE
Probably Joliet and RockRidge extensions to the ISO9660 file system)
In that case, you will have a (software) scsi interface to your drive (the
ide-scsi emulation). You will probably have to change the link for your
/dev/cdrom from the ide to the scsi device (depending on what else you
have on your bus, to cdrom-->scd0, for example). Then your system will
treat all CD ROM drives as SCSI devices.
See one of the standard HowTos on recording CDs in Linux (but that is the
general idea...).

Same problems here... I get these when using my Maxtor 7200 RPM 20G HD
at UDMA4. The only thing that I found to help, is to down-throttle to
UDMA2. I've tried 2.2.16 patched, and 2.4.0-test1 upto test7 but no
luck here.
Searching Deja.com hinted that there can be Maxtor-HPT366 issues.
If anyone has more to say about this, I'd be glad to hear it,

Indeed. Most packages are somewhat based on the "pilot-link" tool
suite; many Linux distributions include a package called "JPilot,"
which provides a quite credible simulation of the PalmComputing

Only what I hear...there are timing issues with (some?) Maxtors and the
HPT controller. Maybe other drives too. I remember Andre Hedrick saying
somewhere that it was not really Maxtor or HPT's fault, but the ATA/66
specs were written such that they could be interpreted differently. And
in this case, were. I hope am not misquoting or misunderstanding him. He
talks fast, even when he writes ;) And did elaborate as I recall. This
was on linux-kernel a few months ago IIRC. Might want to nail this down,
as it has been a while. I chased this for a while myself trying to
'confirm' this, but never found a definitive source (other than what I
remember Andre saying).
This has been a hot button issue with MS BP6 users too, if that is any
consolation.

i'm wondering - do the USB patches applied to 2.2.15/16 cause any
