Hi Rick,
What problems did you experience with Arkeia? I would like to try to see if
the problems can be resolved.

Oh, I tried that already and it didn't work either.
Now dmesg gives an identical log, except hdc and hdd are swapped.
hda: Maxtor 90845D4, 8063MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=1024/255/63
hdb: IOMEGA ZIP 100 ATAPI, ATAPI FLOPPY drive
hdc: no response (status = 0xd0)
hdd: NEC CD-ROM DRIVE:28D, ATAPI CDROM drive
That is, no matter how I rearrange the cable setup, linux still won't see the
second cdrom. (or the first cdrom? whatever)
Funny thing is that when connected alone, each cdrom works just fine.
One other concern is that where do I link /dev/cdrom to, when both of them
eventually work?

Kermit can access ttyS0 only if I'm logged in as root.
Any other account, I get a 'Sorry, can't open connection: ttyS0' message.
I would like Kermit to be able to access ttyS0 from any account.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Subject: Stupid Line Printer...
Date: Sun, 07 Mar 1999 20:52:09 -0800
Hello,
I have this stupid line printer that I can't seem to
get working. The printtool from xwindows control-panel
recognizes lp1 as a good printer port.
When I load the lp.o printer modules I get a small
nudge on the printer, like its recognizes the printer,
but if I do lpr /var/log/messages or cat /var/log/message > /dev/lp1
nothing happens. No printer now error messages in the logfile.
Here is the printcap file that printtool created for me:
##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:lp=/dev/lp1:
Any Help/Comments much appreciated.

Subject: SCSI controller
Date: Mon, 08 Mar 1999 05:18:10 GMT
Hi all,
I have a slackware linux 2.0.33 system with a tekram 390F
SCSI controller installed. I have a micropolis Narrow drive hooked up to
the internal pin connector and a panasonic 7502 CDR connected as well. I
have no external devices.
Lately I have been having alot of problems with the CDR. It can see a disk
and mount it, but I gets lots of errors when trying to copy the whole CD
to the HD. I thought the CDR was the problem so I got a Plextor Ultraplex
drive, but its having the same problem. I now suspect the controller. The
only thing I changed was I upgraded from BIOS 2.0 to 2.0.2 a while back.
I now upgraded to 3.0.3, but my problems aren't going away.
I am not sure I can find 2.0 bios images anywhere.
The weird thing is it seems I can copy files one at time off the drive,
just not all at once. On the other hand I seem to be able to do
DAE(digital audio extraction just fine). I think this is the first time I
have ever tried to install large apps off this CD setup or copy whole CDs.
It seems to me the controller is confusing the CD-ROM drives somehow, or
maybe the OS is confusing the controller. Does anyone have ideas?
Thanks
Mark

Yes, they started doing this a few months ago. Pretty sneaky, eh? The new
modem is called a 5687-02, and as you say, it is PnP-only. Otherwise,
3Com has claimed it is the same as the 5687-0;, they just ran out of
modems before they ran out of old boxes. :(
This modem _can_ be and is being used with Linux (not by me).
