Okay, so heres mine. BTW does anybody know why my drives report
"BuffSize=81kB"? According to Quantums homepage, the buffer size
should be 128K. Both drives also report only 81K under DOS and

As a rule of thumb I reccomend a maximum length of 100,000 feet
divided by the baud rate. For 115Kbaud, that's a very short cable,
though :-) I've used 19200 baud on a poor quality cable of about
200m with very few problems.

In my experience, data corruption depends more on the environment than
the baud rate. For example, RS-232 doesn't like arc-welding nearby.

Could be a defective cd, did you try different ones?

Or there could be something wrong with termination, the LVD/Ultra2 port
should be terminated with the supplied active terminator, and in the
asus-bios all termination options should be set on.

And don't connect the UW cable to the connector when you don't have any
devices connected (or put a terminator on it), as the loose end at the
back of your computer might degrade your signal.

Is the last device of the scsi chain that your cdrom is part of terminated?

I thought his point was that "redHat sucks" would refer to a sucky
distribution (singular), not a sucky company of people (plural
in British). We all know the Red Hat guys don't suck. (The brims
get in the way.)

Anybody knows if this network card is supported by Linux?
I want to connect my new P-2 PCI system with my old '486 ISA-bus PC
and when I bought a Netgear FA 310TX NIC for my new PC (which I know
is supported by Linux), I thought getting its ISA version for the '486
PC would be just perfect. Especially because I saw no indication on the
box that it was a PnP NIC. However, after I opened the box at home,
it showed no jumpers at all and the docs indicate it is a PnP card.
For non-PnP Windows 95 systems they provide a setup program to set
IRQ, port adress and such with software. But that may not help me
much in Linux.

So before I even try to install it, I thought I better ask it here if
anybody had any success with this Netgear EA201c NIC.

Thanks,
Joe

The last time I tried this was when 2.2.2 was fresh off the
presses. I haven't had a chance since. Unfortunately these are
highly-visible production boxes so I don't get much opportunity
to fiddle with them, and due to the expense of the things, I
couldn't get a spare authorised.

> Why don't you use modules ?

They're pretty much dedicated systems and I didn't see any need
to go with a modular kernel (I'm a monolithic believer, anyway, for
most applications).

   I haven't the faintest notion what that is. :-) That's why I'm
asking here.

No. I haven't tried it. I will do so.

No idea. The machine has three LAN adapters in it; one's our
internal private network, the one in question connects to our DMZ,
and the third is the TLAN-based private netowrk between the four
machines (for ICP). If there was "too much work" on any of them,
I'd have suspected the internal net'.

Oh, well. Thanks anyway. I'll give your advice a shot and see what
happens. Maybe it got fixed in the 2.2.5 version.

In that case, use fibre-optic converters. They plug into RS-232
sockets, so you need a pair. I know that it works up to at least 2km.

Hi,
1. As root type in a shell(without the <>):
< fdisk /dev/hda>
then

to get a partition list of your C-drive and leave fdisk with
.
2. Edit your /etc/fstab and make additional entries analogous to
the existing entries for your hdb items.

The reason for the original post is that I need to get much better color depth
than my current 8 bit for a 1280x1024 display. During the day my X server supports
a lot of AIX applications that are always out of colors. Looks really bad much of

Still, in the evening, when it switches to more personal use, I wouldn't mind a

The card probably has a software program that comes with it to change
the interrupt. Usually a flash rom is able to retain the change when the
power is shut off. Post the name of the card and someone might be able to help.
Alternately, go the supplier's web site and they might have more information.
