I'm having probs here - what kind of monitor are you using? I too
have a mach 64 (264VT) and my X Server shows up like a bad
tv-descrambler. I can see the first third of the screen but that
third simply repeats twice.

That was if I set up the VGA server and set a Generic VGA card. If I
try to set up the Mach 64, I get an amber glowing LED (usually means
power management is on.

I'm interested in knowing how (if?) your setup is working...

thx, the Webulator

Let me explain what I ghave been trying. I have started to comment out
stuff so by process of elimination I could find what is needed. It
seems the only thing that is responding is the line
        Virtual 320 240
and if I change these numbers the screen gets distorted. I havent had
any luck with the modelines. the Xserver does not seem to be responding

to changes in it. I have also attemted to use the modeplot script and
have installed gnuplot for that. It will not run as mentioned in a
previouse message I sent.

I hope that this config file helps someone that is having a tougher time

than me. And I would apreciate any response or tips someone with more
linux exp. might have. myself I have only been trying linux for a
couple of weeks.

Thanks

Try changing the Virtual 320 240 to Virtual 640 480. If you want to
tweak the modelines, use xvidtune while running the X server in the
desired mode. It allows you to shift and scale the since of the visible
screen region.

Yes, see the XFree86 site, it is the 3DLabs driver. You MUST get the
3.3.3.1 release, or your clock will be adversely affected.

Hi,

are there ANY known problems with Linux and the ASUS P5AB? I'm running
it for some weeks now and I'm quite happy with both performance and
stability, but before suggesting it to a friend I'd like to be sure that
I'm not missing something (especially because he has had quite some
trouble with a different ALI board). He's got an AMD K6-II 350, an ATI
Expert98, and 128 MB of PC100 SDRAM. Currently he's running kernel
2.0.36.

I know of some problems related to the P5AB and the ATI card, but as far
as I know a recent BIOS should take care of them.

If you know of any other socket7 AT-format mobo more suitable /
recommendable... any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
        Tom

excerpt from linux Hardware-HOWTO. So when is linux
smp support not going to be considered experimental anymore?

Seems like lots of people are using it with good success.
Does anyone still consider it experimental and not ready for
primtime?

here is the output of startx -probonly can anyone please help get my
display size to fit on a 15 inch monitor. If there is anyone having
trouble getting their x windows to come up take a look at my config file
as a starter. My problem was that my mother board was realy designed
for set-top boxes or laptops. It has no video card and will not
acomadate one. It has a sysem-on-chip archatecture....win32 runs great
on it and takes some higher level cales for configuring the video, but
I was told that it was not supporting linux"". I installed redhat 5.2
fine and I can do alot with one shell .... but I want my X windows to
run in a noral manner... So I would realy apreciate the help. Again I
have labored hard to tweek the modelines and I also tried to get the
modeplot script to run to find some good numbers. any help again would
be apreciated.
Thanks in advance
The processor is a Cyrix MGMX 200MHz on a GCT-MGX systemboard, the
monitor is a svga 15 inch see config file for specs.
