It appears that you are trying to set it up IO 0x0100. Try uncommenting the
second multiple choice set :

# Start dependent functions: priority acceptable
# Logical device decodes 16 bit IO address lines
# Minimum IO base address 0x02e8
# Maximum IO base address 0x02e8
# IO base alignment 8 bytes
# Number of IO addresses required: 8
(IO 0 (SIZE 8) (BASE 0x02e8) (CHECK))
# IRQ 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 15.
# High true, edge sensitive interrupt (by default)
(INT 0 (IRQ 5 (MODE +E)))

make sure (ACT Y) at the end is still uncommented and recomment the
selections at the end that refer to 0x0100 and irq 3.

This will set up the same resources as NT, and should be (I think)
/dev/ttyS2.

Then if you get a message about Fatal - resource conflict allocating 8
bytes of IO the problem may be with the new version of isapnptools.
My Mandrake dist. has it and it causes isapnptools to look for the address
twice. Its documented in the ISAPNPTOOLS HOME PAGE.

http://www.roestock.demon.co.uk/isapnptools/

Hope this helps. I just went through this last weekend.

Hey all. I have an IBM Thinkpad 755C with a HI-VAL (www.hival.com)
portable cdrom. I can get Slackware 4.0 to install, but I want Mandrake
6.0. However, the Mandrake boot disks do not detect my CDROM. Can anyone
help me? I've tried the new d/loads from Mandrake, the Linux Laptop
page, etc. No avail. Help.... Thanks.

I am curious why you would want to??? You already have one in the cpu that

I have DMA running on an Asus P5AB (Ali V chipset) using kernel 2.3.4. I
believe there is a patch for 2.2 kernels, but certainly 2.3.4 is very
stable.

Get another disk, partition it, mount the partitions on a temporary
place, copy /usr to one, /var to another /etc to another. Delete the
original subdirectories, unmount the disk's partitions and then mount
them in their correct spot.

You'll end up with a whole lot more room everywhere.

Jorg:

I'm a real newbie, so forgive me if I'm way off the mark, but I noticed
you tried several different commands to mount your 4416s, and none of
them match the one I use:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd1 /cdrom1

This works for me. The mount point probably isn't important as long as
it exists, I haven't used the drive to write with under linux yet, but
it reads just fine.

By the way, what is the deal with mounting other drives at /mnt any way
(anyone)? Is this just a matter of style, or is there an important
reason which I have yet to learn? My /dev/scd0 is a Plextor 12/20, which
my instalation (SuSE6.1) set up to mount at /cdrom, so /cdrom1 seemed
natural for the second drive. Likewise there is already a /floppy mount
point so why not a /syquest, an /ntfs, etc. for mounting the various
partitions on my multi boot system? =

Hope this might help.

Oh and btw how is your scsai chain terminated?

Ausser, der Hersteller rckt keine Beschreibung des Protokolls raus, wie bei den

I have the parallel port ZIP100. I have no problems when I zap /dev/sda4,

Are you sure your ISP allows connections to POP and NNTP from outside
their network? Are you sure they allow SMTP relaying from ourside their

all "no". Too many spammers and script kiddies. Might be worth asking.

Ran into this same problem yesterday. HOWEVER, shouldn't it be possible
to configure this as a generic vga and get SOME xwindows - if not the
best resolution? Why is it so hard to get X to start on some of these
adapters ins 'generic vga' mode (pick monitor also as 'generic multisync'
instead of 'custom'. X has to be the most frustrating thing going.

This is NO an answer to your question - but you asked for any suggestions
and I'm wondering what the problem is in leaving your zip drive in
a dos or vfat format? You can still read and write if from Linux and
you could read it if necessary from the dos side of your 'machine'.

If it is ext2fs format, only linux can read it. (just thinking outloud)

If you're looking for a modem that would work with Linux, don't get any of
those winmodems. They're garbage if you're looking at working with Linux. I
just got a 56K modem by Actiontec (model PCI56012-01CW) and it works well
with Linux. It cost around $90~. I don't know if you can get a controller
based modem for under $40 though. So good luck!

Yes, it is included in 2.2.10 whereas with 2.0.36 I believe it was
included as experimental only (not sure though).

However, the version in 2.2.10 is 1.04 whereas the most recent version
is 1.06. I was therefore wondering if it is possible to get a more
current version w/o replacing my kernel, rebooting etc.

thanks anyway,
  Jens
