If that modem is Rockwelm-based, try using AT%TCBDx to dial out (x is
the phone number.) But again, that option may have been disabled or
replaced by another instruction.

Try to add S40=16 to your init string. It doesn't work on all USR
modems, because of the different firmware.

Hey guys I have just posted my new Linux Hardware Database as

for any questions about hardware with the Linux OS. Currently there are
about 100 entries already and that number is growing. The database is
fully interactive. This means that not only can you look up hardware
that you have questions about but you can also add entries of your own.
Please drop by http://www.comphardware.com and let me know what you

Hi,
Haven't got one of these cards, but have just checked Creative's
site to check on progress, and there's a driver at last!
( http://developer.soundblaster.com/linux/ for those who haven't
found the page yet)
So, has anybody tried it, before I go and get myself one?
Not bothered how good it is, mainly want to know:
    -If it works
    -If it hangs the machine
-What setup it needs (libc problems? kernel reqs?)
    -What features it supports currently
Presumably it's beta level and they'll have something more eventually,
but I wouldn't want to get a card and find that it's *still* completely
unusable.
    Thanks for any info,

All,

With Linux's increasing popularity, shouldnt hardware vendors
start porting their interface software over to LInux? Or at least
providing some interface tips to OSS developers? I am not in
favor of how winmodems tax the CPU, but it would open more doors
considering the vast distribution of these lousy things....

More people using Linux is better.... Gotta chop out those
impediments along the way. Next stop: get "Supports Linux"
on more new shiny product retail boxes.... It is up to vendors.
Linuxers will at some point be seen as a viable market, once vendors
get over the WinXX uber alles mentality.

2.0.36 supports modular sound drivers. If you want to try using 2.2.x

Dear friends,
I read these mail about external cd-r and Linux; I have same problem with a
Traxdata CDRW2260+ and my Suse 6.0 distribution with KDE 1.1.
Reading the boot messages, the system "see" my Traxdata, as pcd0 and as
pg0, but when I mount it, I receive an error message about "pg0 is not a
block device".
On the contrary, it works fine as pcd0 (only cd-rom reader); besides, in
the /dev dir there is an object called "pg0", but it's a block character,
not a block device.
How I can create a pg0 "block device" ?
Please, reply me as soon as possible...
Thanks,
Alex z8-((

the reasoning is this -

you need some characters for punctuation.

for example
'\0' ends a string
'/' seperates directories
':' is used as a filename seperator in paths
'*', '?' are used for file globbing
and such

'\0' and '/' really *are* banned from filenames. i think taking too
many chars away from filenames is bad. it would make sense to get rid
of control chars (^S in a filename is loads of fun on a serial
terminal using xon/xoff) and then reserve '\' as an escape char.

the lack of reserved escape char is especially annoying since you
cannot have a path include a directory with a colon in its name. if
backslash were the escape char, you could force a literal colon into
the path.

if not sure just at to all of that, depend on your envirorment,
if you use graphical login it maybe .xsession or .xclient

Go to http://www.0wned.org/~cain/ragefury.htm

There you will find info on how to make your Rage 128 board work under X with
the Frame Buffer device. However you are required to update to Linux 2.2
beforehand.
