hi

it's a 486, found promissing information in slackware dist. downloaded
scsi.s
but it didn't found any scsi-devices or network devices, the pc got the
following
devices: SCSI Adaptec AHA-150x/1510/152x/AIC-6x60 SCSI
Network: DEC (DE 100) Ether Works LC

thought that 433 gave a hint... sorry.

3c509 on IRQ 10 0300-030f PNP turned off
Advansys Jaz Jet IRQ 11 6c00-6c0f
Red Hat 5.2

The ethernet card functions correctly until the Advansys card is installed.
With the SCSI card present I get no error messages when loading the 3c509
module or from ifconfig. SCSI card functions correctly.

Anyone have a suggestion what to try ?

Thanks

The BJC-6000 is the successor to the BJC-5000 which is a Win-Printer
that does not work under Linux. Check carefully before buying.

I just got this P150, with a scsi controller and HD. I formerly had an
IDE disk on an i486. How can I hook up the IDE hard drive without the
BIOS thinking it is the primary drive? Because it has a primary DOS
partition to load loadlin. I haven't really tried anything yet just
thought I would post something so I can do it right the first time.

If you want duel you have the choice of pentium Pro , normal Pentium or
Pentium II

if you are after more then you can (AFAIK) only go the Pro route

I've pretty well been there, and done that. I even use the wd_ata66.exe
to turn the UDMA66 mode off, leaving 33,(mode 2) but this kernel doesn't
support dma undere any conditions I guess.

So, I'm trying to compile 2.2.9, which does, but I'm getting a
(preprocessor derived?) error I haven't seen since before we got
'Ansifront' on the coco, along with a later c.prep (mine)

Its concatenating a couple of function names in
./arch/i386/net/compress.c, such that they are then identical, and the
redefine causes make to yell for help, with an error 2.

See my other post re that. But thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate
them. A thought... Do you have any idea where I could find a
SuperDMAC-04? The worldwide supply has apparently been comsumed, and I
have an A3000T/040 with a bad one, something came in the scsi port and
ate both an -08a scsi chip and the SDMAC in it.

Cheers, Gene

Subject: X Serevr for Voodoo 3/Banshee

I have received requests to explain exactly how I got my Voodoo 3 card
to work with Linux (Red Hat 5.2). Unfortunately, that is difficult,
because I don't keep notes on what I did and why it worked. I just
keep trying different things and when it eventually works, I just go
with it rather than writing down the successful procedures. But I do
habe some wisdom to impart for those trying to set up this goddamned
thing.

If you are a Linux user and you are considering buying this card for
your system- DON'T. Great for PC gaming - bad for Linux. In the future
I am (pretty) sure the support for it will improve. So wait.

The first thing you need to do is visit
http://glide.xxedgexx.com/3DfxRPMS_vb_glibc.html.
Get all three RPMs from the page. There are also instructions on how
to convert the files if your system doesn't use RPMS. One of the files
is an XF86Setup program for the server. DON'T install this one with
the others. I had to re-install the old XF86Setup, use it to configure
the server, then re-install the 3dfx XF86Setup. I have no idea why.

So when I first tried to install these RPMs, it gave me lip about
"failed dependencies" so I used the "--force". That will force the
RPMs to install. The full command that worked was:
rpm -Uvh --force XF*.rpm.

Once the files are successfully installed, use XF86Setup (or whatever
else you use) to setup the server. Select Generic SVGA, unknown
chipset. Do not specify any settings. Let the server detect
everything.

When I reached this point, the server ran successfully but the
settings were terrible. Every time I tried to configure with
XF86Setup, I got horrible bloody crashes. So I re-installed the
3dfx-XF86Setup, and it worked. The difficult part was selecting the
proper settings without the X-server crashing. For instance, when I
set the resolution and the color depth at the same time, it crashed,
but when I set them individually, no problem. It was a process of
trial and error, but eventually I got 1280 X 1024 at 32b color depth.
I haven't tried for 1600 X 1200, but I'm happy with it the way it is
now.

I'm sure others have had different experiences with this server, but
at least you have the testimony of one person that got it to work and
is (more or less) happy with it. Email me if you have any questions.

I believe www.yahoo.com runs on FreeBSD and www.dejanews.com runs on Linux.
They're pretty big.
Oh, and {www,ftp}.cdrom.com claims to be the busiest single FTP server
in the world, and it's on FreeBSD. (My favorite place to download Linux!
I'm always user #3499 out of 3500; how do they do that?)

I moved to linux from WfWG 3.11. My previous OS managed to look like it
was lacking all by itself, thank you very much. :-)

Run from kernel source 'make modules; make modules_install' over again.
Sounds like modules.dep is missing from your /lib/modules/kernel/
directory.

Good luck; the OPTi can be a challenge to get going (especially if it
boots up in PnP mode like my '931 does).
