I'm using Caldera OpenLinux 2.2, and Netscape Communicator(browser, mail,
news reader, etc..) is all black&white. It displays web contents in color,
however the program's own buttons and menus are all black&white. I can't
recognize them unless there are popup help.
Is this normal? How do I fix this?
Thank you.
BTW. My video card is Matrox G200.

Use a boot disk for a temporary solution. Then download and install the
newest LILO package.
This worked for me when I had such a problem.

The 4M should be fine. I have been using a 4plus and a 5M for about 2
years with no problems. If you are using redhat you can just pick the
HP 4/5/6 option or as you say drive it in postscript mode.
Mine have been printing in 600dpi from Netscape, Latex, StarOffice etc
with no problems at all.

Hi
I would like to to use a Quantum DLT4000 tape drive to backup my Linux
box. The scsi card is installed and works and the tape drive is detected
at booted time as a DLT4000, however the dump command seems to think the
tapes have a smaller capacity than the really have. I have tried
changing the tape density with both the dump and mt commands but this
does not work. How can I get dump to recognize the tape correctly
Thanks

I installed 6.0 on an older 4200/3 with the AMI Megatrends RAID
controller. 16MB cache. Remember to ask it to probe for more SCSI
after it finds the first controller.
I booted off CDROM to a clean system after zeroing disks on the AMI. No
surprizes except they told me the onboard graphics had 2MB video ram
when it only had one. If you're worried about it do a late night
practice run.

I've seen an FX based board that takes 2 pent-2 cpus. locally, a

drop in 2 celerons (in slotkets) and you'd be in business.
let me know if you want the name of the place that is selling those boards.

Hello,
Hopefully someone can help out a Linux newbie here. I am running a
multiple boot system on a Fujitsu 6.4 Gb IDE hard drive and a Western
Digital 4.3 Gb IDE hard drive. On the 6.4, I have as Primary
partitions, OS/2's Boot Manager (7 Mb), Win98 (2047 Mb/Hidden C:), OS/2
Warp 4.0 (3271 Mb/Hidden C:), and 855 Mb of free space for Linux, in
that order. On the 4.3 Gb, I have 2 2000 Mb logical partitions D: and E:
with 94 Mb left over for Linux Swap. In case anyone needs to know, this
is a Pentium Pro 200/512 running on an Acer v60n motherboard, Intel
440FX chipset. I have tried to install RH Linux 5.0 and 5.1 on this
system before, by creating a Primary partition with OS/2's fdisk, then
changing the type to linux native with linux fdisk. No matter where I
place the partition for linux, from the very first partition on the
drive to second and so on, LILO will not install. I install linux
packages just fine, either with a full blown install, or with a minimal
18Mb install, but when I get to the Install Bootloader part, linux will
not install either on the MBR, or first sector of boot partition
(preferred). I have not tried to make a linux boot disk to see if that
will work, since I would much rather prefer to find a way to get my
existing setup to work. I am able to move around the partitions
wherever they need to be to get this to work, but I would like to try
and avoid a complete format/restore if possible. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Sorry for the cross/re-posting.

But you may also have an application were 32K are enough.
It's only a question of code and data locality - at least
it only depends on _your_ application.
Of course, i'd like to own a Dual Xeon 500 with 2MB each,

Depending on the application, the Cluster may be 7 times faster
then the Xeons, but they may be only 1/7 the speed as well.

Hi.
I have a problem with the NFS lock deamon (rpc.lockd).
I had setup a linux box with dual P2's but compiled the kernel only to use
one processor.
When in this configuration the rpc.lockd worked and I could lock files over
the NFS link e.g records in database files.
However when I recompiled the kernel for SMP, the rpc.lockd doesn't work. I
rceompiled rpc.lockd from the source code, but this didn't help.
Questions
==============
1) Can you do NFS file locking in an SMP environment?
2) If so what software do I require, where can I get it , and what
compile/configuration settings should I use to get it to work?
Your help would be most appreciated.

for example !!!!
A program will transfer data between /dev/modem and /dev/virtualcom,

modem to interrupt for a moment the ppp connexion ....
To do this I must use mknod, and use minor and major numbers .... What

Subject: Changing SCSI Adaptors -> Detection Fails
Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 10:41:01 +0200
Hi,
I have the following problem:
To clone an installation from another computer I attached a drive and
made an exact copy of the root partition.
After inserting the cloned disk into the new computer the RedHat 5.2
boot disk fails to detect the SCSI host adapter (it is an NCR53c810) but
installing the driver with insmod is no problem. Neither is installing
lilo on the disk.
But then the problems start: The kernel boots fine (it is the
pre-compiled RedHat 5.2 kernel, Version 2.0.36-0.7) but again it does
not detect the host adapter but tries to install the drivers for the
aic7xxx (this was the proper driver for the computer the disk was cloned
from...) and after this is hangs.
Strangely, the RH 6.0 Installation Boot Disk detects the driver
correctly, but since we want to have coherent installations I would
rather liker to have 5.2 working. Is this a known problem with RH 5.2,
ther kernel or the procedure I have used to create the disk?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Stephan
