Your find that by using Alsa 5.08 It will run fine and dandy.
I am using the YM744B PCI on SuSE 6.4 with the Alsa Drivers and I works
great. Your Sound card is on the Alsa List so should work also.
Word of advice though dont use kernel 2.2.16 as they seem to have screwed
up the timmings some what and your get backgroung clicks when playing mp3
files! It seems fine with kernel 2.2.14.
I got a feeling that Alsa have a patch for that problem with version 5.0.8b
Look on "rpm find" for the lastest Alsa drivers!

Just like video tape. Data is overwritten.

Tar doesn't care if the I/O device is a file or device.

It will write data wherever you tell it. Tar works the same with files
or devices.
Get a copy of mt, version >= mt-st-0.5b. This allows for easy tape
positioning. mt {status, seek, rewind, tell, fsf} are usually all you
need.
'tar cf /dev/ht0 /home' will create an archive of /home on your tape,
then rewind the tape to the beginning. The /dev/nht0 device is almost
always what you want as it does not rewind the tape after each
operation. Soft link /dev/tape to /dev/nht0. Mine looks like this:
> ls -l /dev/tape
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Jul 14 00:52 /dev/tape ->
nst0

the easy way:
echo 'modprobe aic7xxx' >>/etc/rc.d/rc.local
a little harder way:
mkinitrd --with=aic7xxx /boot/initrd-<KERNEL-VERSION>.img
ADD to /etc/lilo, your default kernel section:
initrd=/boot/initrd-<KERNEL-VERSION>.img
.
good luck.

Subject: CTX 710 Modelines needed
Date: Tue, 1 Aug 2000 18:21:41 -0400
I am in desperate need of the correct Modelines for my CTX VL710S monitor.
Does anybody know where I can find the proper "Modeline" entries for my
XF86Config file for this monitor? I have tried numerous searches on the
internet, and each time I end up with a dead end. The links on the
XFree86.org page for "other" monitors Have no uselful information, at least
for me. I called CTX, the kid on the other end had never even heard of
XFree!
I then spent hours going over the Man Pages for XFree86Config and got only
more questions! I Figured I could write my own because the status button on
the monitor would show me the refresh rates and HSync, Vsync for each
resolution, but the "Modelines" require three other numbers (xsyncstart,
xsyncend, and xtotal) for both Horizontal and Vertical. In addition there is
no mention of what the H*ll a "Dot Clock" is or where this number comes
from!
Thanks,
Tim

I've been running 2 Abit BP6 system's for over 8 months now, frequently
at +180% CPU (performance testing) with zero memory bus saturation
problems. In the past I ran Asus P2B and P3B systems overclocked at
133MHz FSB also without memory bandwidth issues.

Put some heat sink compound under it. Put a 486 fan on top of it.

GX supports Xeon, 4 CPU, 2GB mem
BX supports PIII, 2 CPU, 1GB mem
Otherwise, they're identical. No better throughput, no higher FSB
speeds.

detail; not now).

When it comes to my limited current knowledge on this topic, I don't

I have a 19" Sony Trinitron E400 and am running
RedHat 6.1. Xconfigutor does not list this monitor
I had X running with my old monitor but it died and
I purchased this E400 and an ATI Rage Fury Pro (32 MB)
video card. The video card is recognized but I do not know
how to get Linux to recognize the monitor. I chose the
"Custom" monitor selection in Xconfigutor but I could not
get any of the choices listed to work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Tim,
you could try to configure it as another monitor which could be close to it by
parameters. I found this link one day but did not had a chance to try it as in
my case I did not had any problem of this kind
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/x-windows/hiresx.html
and at next link you will find explanation "What is dot..."
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/x-windows/hiresexp.html
In most case standard tools like XFSetup xf86config (do not remember names I am
on Solaris now) do the job.
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/x-windows/xf86config.html
Here it is example as one person configure XFree
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/x-windows/ghres.html
In XFree 4.0.1 server will the job by itself - at least for my Matrox G400
and I had only a little tweak some lines for mouse and DRI.
root# XFree86 -configure

BIOS upgrade did more than fix the slow memory; /dev/hdb now cranks big
time. A big thanks to all you guys. I apologise if I came across kind of
sharp to some of you. I'm running on about 40h of no sleep now and got a
little cranky. Hope you'll forgive!

You definatly want to compile all scsi support for the CDRW into
the kernel. Leave nothing modular. Your devices will be scdx where
x is the number of the device. If you have 2 cd type devices
the first is scd0 the second scd1 etc. Make sure your entries in the
file /etc/fstab reflect this for each drive used. I use redhat 6.1 also
this is how I have it set up and it works.
example fstab line for scdx cdrom.
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 auto,owner,ro 0 0
for cdrw
/dev/scd1 /mnt/cdrw iso9660 noauto,owner,rw 0 0
also make sure to compile support for joliet cd and if avail
rock ridge extentions into the kernel not as a module.
