Hi,
How do you connect 2 PC's using one modem without swapping the
connectors out of the PC's. Is there a cost effective way of doing
this without buying a switch ?
ie 2 nine pin connectors to one 9 pin connector would this work ?
Or is there a networking solution to this ie connect from the NT
box and not via Linux or the otherway around.
Setup.. 1 x NT box, 1 x Linux box, 1 x 3com Message modem.
Could someone please email me the solution ?
Many thanks
Matt

You may try frame buffer server, it should work
with all vesa2.0 compatible card.

I use LF-100J which is DVD-RAM drive (Panasonic). Now, I

Of cause, read-write is OK.
Usually, DVD-RAM is recognized by kernel as CD-ROM drive.
You must apply "scsi patch" to kernel and recompile the kernel
if you use DVD-RAM drive to be desireble work. Then, DVD-RAM
drive will be recognized as SCSI device.
Please see below my Web page.

I think you must modify the patch, and my Web page

Earle,
I also have an Ati Rage Fury 128mg. I have done extensive searches on the
Net and the ATI site, according to ATI they do not support it yet.
Unlike PCI video cards, AGP cards require custom driver programming of
internal CHIP API interfaces.
If you find another solution let me know. You may also want to check with
Xmetro and several of the other acellerated X Windows system from the
redhat.com site.

Are you really running real dos with no windows in the background? Did

Real internal modems should be recognized as serial ports. Does any
serial port at all get recognized? Does the modem have jumpers to set
com-port and irq?

Hi-
We are using the version of ghost (perhaps 5.0h?) which is on symantec's
website and have cloned drives with no problems. You may want to download
the latest version and see if that helps.

Ummm...has anybody looked at the RAIDZONE product

Aha! That answers one question! Thanks!
<Have you compiled you own kernel? With the CMD640 buggy chipset support

Yes and yes!
Actually, I'm starting to get somewhere. By using hdparm -c3 -m16 I've
managed to get the transfer speed up to around 2 MB/sec, over ten times
faster! The system is MUCH livelier. It seems that for some reason it is
defaulting to very slow parameters, despite the fact that hdparm -i reports
things correctly.
Next question (remember, I'm a relative newbie to Linux!) where do I place
an hdparm statement so that my chosen parameters are selected automatically
at boot up?

The biggest problem I've found using large numbers of IDE disks is that
the cables are too short to reach to farthest disks. I have a full tower
with 9 bays at the top of the case (front and back) and only two 3.5" at
the bottom of the case where the motherboard is. Even with the onboard
IDE, I can't reach to the top of the case with a standard 19" UDMA cable
if more than one drive is attached. I can't reach the bays on the rear
of the case at all.
A basic U2W cable can easily connect to 5 drives in ANY bay. Of course 8
SCSI disks cost roughly 3 times as much as 8 UDMA drives of comparable
performance.

You need to fiddle with tunelp. This looks like a problem with printing

I have azt3000 (azt2320 compatible) pnp sound card.
I set PnP to be initialized by the bios, so my linux

Currently, the sound card works at SB Pro compatible mode.
But it works only at 8 bit mode. I'm sure that it's
a 16 bit card from the experience with MS windows 98.
Does anybody know how to make it work?
Thank you.

No, as long as XFree is the same XFree in FreeBSD & Linux it the X Server
can't be the problem. In FreeBSD I have a terrific picture.

Ahhh.... No. The slots are different. The reason they say "open AGP
or PCI slot" is that the same documentation is used for both versions. An
AGP card will work fine in NT, and Linux, but the advanced AGP features may
not all be supported.

There are many ways to do it. One way would be to setup a nullmodem
(crossover serial cable) between the two, possibly run a parallel
link and use plip, another would be to put
a netcard in each and run either 10b2 or 10/100bT (crossover).
Simply use ipmasq or ipchains on the linux machine to masq/chain
between the modem and network. Might also want to run a proxy
for stubborn things that dont like masq'd firewalls. You could
use the NT machine as the modem's host, using a proxy. But why
would you do that when you have linux, and it can do so much more?
