I have an HP670C which is quite similar to HP695C,
It is supported through cdj670 device of ghostscript, which is
still beta.
If you want my two cents stay away from HP, buy an epson instead.
Better quality and less problems.

Hello,
no need to excuse, no one was born as guru.
Accessing the floppy is rather simple: Make sure you have "mtools"
installed and you can use almost all commands you know from DOS if you
prepend the letter "m". For instance do:
"mdir a:"
"mcopy filename a:"
"mcopy a:filename ." (This dot might be important)
With cds it's a little bit more tricky: You have to mount them.
The following command should do the trick:
"mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /cdrom"
This presumes your CD-Drive is master on the second IDE-Interface and
a directory called "/cdrom" exists.
Now you find all files on the cd in the directory /cdrom.
Afterwards make sure to unmount it by doing "umount /cdrom".
Once you have succesfully done this you can place an entry in
/etc/fstab which allows you to mount it simply by doing "mount
/cdrom". See man fstab for details.
I hope I haven't confused you more than I helped you ;)
Greetings,
Andreas

Goto http://www.opensound.com and download the driver for linux 2.2.*
It autodetects sound cards and is easy to use...but, it will only last for
240mins and then in 20minute 'segments' .
Its only $20 if it works and you want to keep it.

andreas,
paul's specified the tape not to rewind /dev/nst0.
^
paul,
i came across the same problem. here's one of many solutions:
dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/nst0
then you can fire up restore.
good luck

Could you try to log the error message when the X-server fails? This will
let you know if the chipset is recognized by the server or not (I mean,
startx >& x.log), and more. And some expert can really pin point the
problem.
BTW, what is meant when you say, "When I start X I get the resolutions
listed ...." ?
If I have understood this sentence correctly, then I have *not* understood
your problem correctly!!

How you close Xwindows depends on which Desktop you use. CTRL-ALT-Backspace will
drop you riught out of x-windows usually, If you are using KDE, you may be able
to press ALT-F1 to get at the menu.

(Prices from http://www.pricewatch.com)
2 Intel P-II 450's: $500
or
2 PPGA 300A Celeron's (overclocking to 450) = $100
2 MSI6905 slotkets (with heatsink & ball-bearing fan): $30
total $130
You can guess which choice I made. I actually paid a bit more for both my
celeries ($69.95 each) and the slotkets ($30 each, heatsink and fan included),
but the package as a whole was still cheaper than one P-II 450 cpu.

1) you will need the newer fdisk to reach beyond 8G. i am not sure
how to integrate this with the redhat boot floppy.
2) you will have to boot from floppies since, in all likelihood, the
bios cannot reach beyond 8G to get your kernel.

when in minicom, can you get *any* response to AT commands?
what speeds have you set the serial line to?
i usually link /dev/modem to /dev/ttyS1 (or where-ever you have your

ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem

Hi, AFAIK, one does not need the latest XFree86 (3.3.3.1):
I can run this card under Xfree86 3.3.2.3a (which knows it under the
name ATI Xpert@Play PCI and AGP, 3D Rage Pro) and under Xfree86 3.3.3.1
(which knows it under the name ATI 3D Rage Pro), using XF86_Mach64 xserver.
It works for me at all resolutions (up to 1200x1024) and all color
depths with no tweaking at all. Good one (not to mention that it is
around $40 on Shopper.com..).
Best,
a.

The Iomega external Jaz drives have worked quite well for me. These
drives can be on the costly side, but if you do some hunting, you can
find them at a reasonable cost (at least here in the states). CDR has
the 2-Gig version listed currently at $239 U.S. If you're really
concerned with price, a refurbished 1Gig version can be found for as
little as $135 with one 1-Gig disk. (Note, however, that the 1-Gig
version is no longer in production, but they work just fine
nonetheless and Iomega still sells and supports the 1-Gig media.)
If you can find a vendor liquidating their Syquest Sparq drives and
media, that might suit your needs too. Our campus outlet for computer
equipment just liquidated their stock of drives/media for 50% off all
-- $150 U.S. for the aforementioned Sparq drive.
I run the Jaz drives using PCMCIA SCSI cards from Adaptec and
BusToaster. No problems at all with hardware configurations or
compatibility. I'd be reluctant to pursue USB-type devices though, as
the support and integration of USB features into linux are still in
their infancy.

Hi. I am trying to get quake 2 working with my TNT card on linux.
Unfrotunately, this is not in the quake howto yet ( hint hint )
So far, I have the following:
firstly, it works fine in software rendering modes ( softx and soft )
My current setup is as follows:
I removed the ref_glx.so file from the quake2 directory ( /usr/local/quake2 )
and copied the nvidia glx.so library into that directory , and made
ref_glx.so a link to glx.so
I also have the libGL.so* files from the nvidia distribution in my quake
directory, and symbolic links libMesaGL.so* in that directory.
When I try to put it into GL/X mode, it exits with this error:
LoadLibrary("ref_glx.so") failed: /usr/local/games/quake2/ref_glx.so:
undefined symbol: GlxExtensionInitPtr
Does anyone have an idea (a) how to set up quake2 with a TNT board or
(b) what I am doing wrong ?

You could use a friendly Internet server or buy friends at dynip.com

This is apparently enforced with 128K upload limits and possibly

Hello,
I have successfully installed RH Linux 5.1 on my Gateway 2000 P6-200
machine with an S3V Virge/VX video card. The installation recognizes
the video card, and I select the Generic Multisync monitor. The
installation routine probes the card, tests/blinks the screen a few
times, and installation completes fine. Xconfigurator 3.59 is used.
Now the problem: Trying to install RH Linux 5.2 on the same machine
does not work. The same video card is automatically detected. But
after choosing any of several monitor choices (gateway, generic
multisync, etc.), the installation routine probes the card and blinks
once. The machine then locks up.
Any ideas? Why would 5.1 work perfectly, and 5.2 lock up every time?
thank you,

It seems like your installed kernel haven't got a driver for your SCSI
card (driver as module is not sufficient). -> no driver -> no harddisk
-> no root fs.

Subject: Has anybody run linux on an eMachines eTower?
Date: 9 Jun 1999 19:37:30 GMT
I am looking for a machine to run Linux and was wondering
if the low-cost emachines etower 333cs is a viable option. It costs
$399 with a cyrix MII-333 and 512 kb L2. I know a pentium II
would be much better, but this is really the highest price I'm
going to pay since this is just going to be a router/webserver.
Thanks for any info.
