Well, it turned out to be bad ram. I knew I had a serious problem when I
couldn't compile the new 2.2.10 kernel. After doing some swapping and
testing my ram in another machine I found a bad one.

Thanks to all who replied for the good advice.

For all those with kensington expert mouse woes:

I have one of these babies. It has a serial plug and then a serial to ps/2
converter which I use to plug it into the ps/2 mouse port.

Try running mouseconfig and setting it to Kensington Thinking Mouse
(ps/2). After I did this, I got the desired three button behavior
(although I still don't know how to make the fourth button useful).

Later,

I'll second that. One gotcha I've found: the configuration
script (make config) defaults the IRQ to 7, but I've seen
clone hardware (e.g. Aztech, CMI8330) that was on IRQ 5.

The SoundPro/CMI8330 IRQ mixup is probably a PnP issue on
my new (to me, at least :-) P233MMX motherboard. Your
mileage may vary.

You did not mention the distribution you are using. With Red Hat, using
printool to configure the printer, I seem to recall a click-box
somewhere that enables/disables sending a form feed at the end of a
document. Some printers need this, some don't, perhaps yours does not.

May not solve your problem, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Hi Svante

Yes, I just installed 2 SN2000CT cards last night.
One on a 486 at RH5.0 upgraded to kernel 2.0.36.
One on a Pentium II at RH5.2 upgraded to kernel 2.2.5.

Be aware that the SN2000C and SN2000CT are not Plug and Play.
They are jumperless and you probably will have to set the irq and ioport
using the floppy disk with the setup program.

After a bootup to DOS, insert the floppy disk for the card.
Run
  a:\utility\setup

On the menu, disable Plug and Play.
As needed, set connection type, ioport, and irq, and then save (F2) the
new values to the card.
(I picked RJ-45, ioport=0x0240, irq=9, to avoid conflicts.)
In the windows control panel, prior to booting to DOS, I had deleted the
network adapter erroneously configured as PnP mode.

In Linux, use the driver ne (or ne.o).
Since I built mine as a module, I edited /etc/conf.modules to include
  alias eth0 ne
  options ne irq=9 io=0x0240
I removed any reference to the card in isapnp.conf.
I used control-panel to assign IP addresses and activate the port.

By the way, when trying to run the card in PnP mode, many things appeared
to work correctly.
This is an illusion.

Regards, Nick
