hi

i have an ide Maxtor 62Gb hard drive and want to install it in linux box
running Redhat 2.0.36.
my problem is that this disk is not well detected.

i put the following line in the lilo.conf append "hda=119108,16,63"

but when the system boot up it tells me -> hda: Maxtor 96147H8, 26367MB
w/2048kB Cache, CHS=53572/16/63, UDMA
and i could not see the 62 Gb of my drive

any idea ? how to deal with ?

regards

Are you sure that wasn't './network stop eth0'? Otherwise this is you
removing the card, then...

> initializing socket0
> socket0: Xircom CE#-10/100 Fast Ethernet

This was the card going back in and being dealt with by cardmgr...

... and this is the kernel recognising and starting the Xircom module and
hardware.

This doesn't actually mention any failures at all. A couple of things spring
to mind tho:
1. Does the card have any other devices (such as modem) on it? It could be
that something else that isn't configured.
2. If you do -- at a prompt -- 'ifup eth0', what is the response?

If you are able to, send me /var/log/messages itself from the point it says
"shutting down socket 0". If you can't, email me so and I'll try to take you
through how you can.

And it is convention when replying in email and in the group to state that
fact at the top!

Cheers,

Subject: GBit network cards
Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 10:28:28 GMT

I'm looking to get some Gbit ethernet cards to put in some of our file
servers and was wondering if anybody could advise me of what to go for.
I suppose that in essence I'm looking for success/failure reports.

I've had a look in the kernel config for 2.2.16 and have found these
four cards in the Gigabit section:

 Alteon AceNIC/3Com 3C985/NetGear GA620 Gigabit
support Packet Engines GNIC-II (Hamachi)
support Packet Engines Yellowfin
Gigabit-NIC support SysKonnect SK-98xx
support

I've no experience of Gbit ethernet under linux at all - are some known
to perform better than others?

Thanks.

There's no IRQ mentioned here. Do you have an "irq=7" option for your
parport_pc module? I think you need a line like this in your
/etc/moduless.conf:

options parport_pc irq=7 io=0x378

The port does claim EPP support, which is a good thing because ppa
cannot use ECP.

You aren't using the IRQ on your parallel port, and I think it's
complaining. For comparison, this is what I see when I mount my ZIP
drive. (It doesn't claim EPP support, but it's there - a quirk):

According to this you are using UDMA4.... what does hdparm -tT /dev/hda

Hi,

I recently bought a Abit A7V / Duron system. It has two hard disks, one
on the ATA100 controller which has Windoze 2k on it, and another one on
the ATA66 on which I installed Slackware 7.1

How, if at all, can I configure LILO to be able to boot the Win2k
partition ? Any hope that lilo will properly recognize the ATA100 drive
on startup ? those fancy command line options (ide2=... ) won't do me
any good here, I'm afraid.

TIA for any hints

I'm sorry to say you _are_ mistaking, the Viper II uses the s3 savage2000

chip. You can find an adapted XFree86 driver at the site of s3/diamond:

Also read the .txt file in the same directory

Hi,
a few months ago I had set up my mitsumi CR-4804 TE
ide cd recorder in Mandrake 7.0. My hard drive crashed and
I can't figure out how to set it up the cd recorder
again. I was using the program cdrecord and xcdroast.
When I do cdrecord -scanbus, it can not find and device.
I think that the ide-scsi.o module is supposed to set up a
software emulation of a scsi device so that it will be recognized.
I think the device is supposed to be /dev/scd0. When I try
to mount a cdrom in it by doing mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom ,
I get an message:
" the kernel does ont recognize /dev/scd0 as a block device.
If I look in /dev there exists a block device /dev/scd0.

I am sure it is not imm. The same zip drive and the same disks used to
mount just fine under RH 6.0 and 6.1, using the ppa driver. When I tried
to use imm under those previous OS versions, it didn't work.

The cartridge is readable under Win98SE, even after reformatting with the
zip utilities. Just in case though, I will try another cartridge (6 were
included when I bought the zip drive).

I am using a board produced by TAPR that takes a standard compact flash

I am running the linux router project on it.

http://www.tapr.com (I think!) and follow the links for projects.

Don't know if you tried already, but maybe you have to
mount this particular disk as /dev/sda1. I seem to remem-
ber that some Zip disks use the fourth partition and others
