I see no blinding speed. Has anyone seen a Promise U/66 controller

Subject: Anyone using a Tyan Thunderbolt Dual PIII motheboard?
Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 04:33:55 GMT
I am about to build a Linux box and am considering the Tyan Thunderbolt
motherboard (S1837UANG) with 2 PIII 450's on it. It uses the Intel 440GX
AGP chipset and has an Adaptec AIC-7896 controller (dual Ultra2 SCSI), an
Intel 82559 10/100 NIC and a Creative Labs ES1373 Audio Chip onboard. I
haven't found anyone in the archives using this board, but it is fairly
new. Has anyone tried this board with Linux and, if so, is there support
for the builtin goodies (SCSI, Sound, NIC) or will I end up waiting
around for them? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it was a joke. Red Hat 5.1 had an option to install in

option.
Perhaps I shouldn't admit this, but we understood it perfectly. :)

There is a GLX module for the G200 under XFree86, but it should probably be
considered alpha quality. I have a CVS snapshot that runs pretty well, but like
all CVS snaps that kind of varies with the luck of the draw. The acceleration
still isn't where it should be yet, but it's a heck of a lot faster than running
unaccelerated programs!
For full info see http://lists.on.openprojects.net/glx/g200-faq.html. The link
to the mailing list archive makes for interesting browsing, and has more
up-to-date info on the outlook for the G400 than the FAQ page does.

Looks like you're running a 450, eh?
I have the same processor and saw the same problems you're reporting. (The
actual error is a signal 4 or signal 11, right?) This is a cooling problem.
I ditched my $5US CPU fan and replaced it with bigger a bigger one (around
$12US), mounted it with thermal grease, and for good measure I put a hard
drive cooler in the front panel to blow more air through the case. The
problem stopped immediately, and hasn't shown up again since.

I'm using debian 2.1 and magicfilter for bjc600 which is working fine
for my bjc4300 printer.
Printing using the command lpr file.ps is no problem, but in the printed
image is approx. 1 cm missing (top margin).
Where have I to set the paramter to get the whole image printed.
(the filter is using gs postscript for converting).
I tried so far the -dupMargins="{10 10 10 10} paramter in the gs-filter
script, but nothing happend. taking a view with ghostscript to the
file.ps shows everything correctly.
what can I do to get the whole image printed?

You don't _have_ to have kernel support for these things. They only
need access to a port or a small range of ports. Have a look at
sunsite in apps/sound/radio-cards/
Some of these need kernel support and some don't.

Try minicom. If you still can't get anything echoed back to you, then it's

Check to see if your Microphone works works. Use a mixer program, the
line-in may be turned down to its minimum. Having said that, I've not
tested the line-in on mine, but I have it turned up 3/4 using ossmixer.
BTW I use sb16 for my cmi8330, MS Sound needed too many IRQ's.
