Hi,

You might be luckier than I am. There are PCTel drivers available from a
few websites like http://pctel.n3.net and
 http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html. There are also instructions
there. I think your modem has to point to /dev/ttyS15. You will
definitely need to recompile those drivers for the newer kernel since
they are all precompiled for 2.2.5. Please let me know if it works. In
my case I am unable to load the pctel.o module due to unresolved symbols
no matter where I get the driver. I have heard of people having
succeeded with RedHat 6.1 and Caldera that were running earlier kernels
(mine is 2.2.14-5).

Good luck

You obviously do not follow the DeCSS case. In MPAA v. 2600, the attorney
argues
that the DMCA supersed the fair use provisions of the Copyright Laws. We
don't have
the right to cirumvent the protective devices, even if you own the DVD.
However, you
may not be subject to US laws as we poor souls are.

Hi,
I just got a new PIII 700 with ASUS P3v133 motherboard.
Everything works fine thru windows.

I have a netgear FA 311tx card. that uses tulip.o driver.
when i run Donald's 'tulip-diag' I get an error msg saying that
No valid IRQ has been assigned to the card and the driver has no way to
change it.
I also took a look at 'lspci -vv' This showed me that Pin1 connected to
IRQ0.
isn't PCI supposed assign its own IRQ's? and it works in windows.

I have AwardBIOS so i tried assigning fixed IRQ's to that PCI slot,
still i got the
same problem. I have this PC in my dorm and i am really frustrated now.
i need desperate help.

No recommendations other than what works.

As for me, 2.2.14 kernel.

No modules. I recompiled the kernel (no IDE-CDROM support: with SCSI
support, SCSI CD-ROM support, SCSI generic driver (with vendor
extensions), IDE-SCSI emulation).

When I boot I get two SCSI CD drives ("cdrecord -scanbus" sees them both
as SCSI).

Hi,

My question concerns linux support for USB. I'm trying to find a USB
CD-RW or CD-R that meets the following criteria:
1. external
2. pc/mac/linux compatible
3. it should make a CD that can be run on any CD-ROM drive.

I've found these:
Sony CRX100E/X2
HP 8220e
Teac CDW54E/KIT/USB

I was hoping you could tell me if the above meet my criteria or
recommend some to me.

Thank you,

I don't know about earlier 2930 scsi controllers, but the normal adaptec driver
supports 2930U scsi controllers used in conjunction with other scsi controllers
(in my case, a builtin 7896 controller). I suspect what is happening is your
2930 is sharing an IRQ with something incompatible. If this is the case, you
might try rotating the card through your PCI slots. Another thought is to
rebuild the kernel, making the adaptec controller builtin into the kernel,
rather than a module. You might also try adding "aic7xxx=verbose" to the boot
line to get more information.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of patching the system, etc. to add

Why, they are straightforward to set up (a single setserial command - just read
the man page). It is the simplest thing to do in Linux, really. Try to use that
modem as an answering machine (well, you need model 2976 for that), and you'll

Subject: Re: RedHat 6.2 & Panasonic CF-35 laptop pcmcia cards (network & modem)
Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2000 01:08:14 GMT

PCMCIA is loading devices on socket 0 and socket 1 at boot time.

socket0 has a modem running on port ttyS2.
socket1 has a 3Com MegaHertz 3c574B Fast Ethernet card. insmod is loading
"/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/pcmcia/3c574_cs.o"

The card manager is then loading interface eth0. I have defined eth0 to be
a static IP on my local address (192.168.1.7) with a netmask of
255.255.255.0. (I've tried settings at work too).

Pinging the loopback interface (127.0.0.1) works, as well as the eth0
interface (ping 192.168.1.7 or ping <my hostname>).
However, nothing seems to be going in and/or out of the connection (the
laptop can't "see" other devices on the network).

Does anyone know what's wrong?

I also have the same problem. PCMCIA is working properly, eth0 is being

Plus, there is no reaons you can't just emulate all of

the ide-cd module. ide-scsi will emulate scsi on any ide

I discovered that both cards wouldn't work together, but if I took one
(the modem card on slot0) and placed the network card there instead
(that is, from slot1 to slot0) the network card works fine. The problem
appears to be diagnosed below. I hope this helps to everyone out there
going through the same pains as I am.

MC
---

>From the PCMCIA-HowTo

3.8 Resource conflict only with two cards inserted

Symptoms:

Two cards each work fine when used separately.
When both cards are inserted, only one works.

This usually indicates a resource conflict with a system device that
Linux does not know about.
PCMCIA devices are dynamically configured, so, for example, interrupts
are allocated as needed,
rather than specifically assigned to particular cards or sockets. Given
a list of resources that appear
to be available, cards are assigned resources in the order they are
configured. In this case, the card
configured last is being assigned a resource that in fact is not free.

Check the system log to see what resources are used by the non-working
card. Exclude these in
/etc/pcmcia/config.opts, and restart the cardmgr daemon to reload the
resource database.
