Hello again,
Just to let u know that I don't have a winmodem, It is a 3com/usrobotics
fax modem (56k). I bought it a month ago or so. I check there web site
and found some doc. that i really don't understand yet. It sounded like
the long way around the problem. I will post the info when i sober up a
little(LOL).
Thanx

Hi,
The file should be in the /usr/include/linux directory. The directory linux may
be a symbolic link to /usr/src/linux/include/linux. From this we can surely
deduce that if you have the kernel source you have version.h.
If you have the kernel source:
cd /usr/include
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
Now your make should go through (unless there is some other problem).
If you don't have the Kernel source:
I suggest that may be you get it.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards

No problems here, when using standard clock settings. I have a dual
Celeron 300,
which would lockup under X after a couple of days. It sometimes would
lock up just sitting idle, so i put the FSB back to 66 MHz.
The machine is continually being hammered with rc5des, while compiling
the complete sources of RedHat 6.1. I really keep it busy. On 66 and 100
MHz Robert Redelmeier's program didn't reveal any problems, though (when
_NOT_ hammering it) i've seen messages like: "stuck on TLB IPI wait
(CPU#0)" and:
kernel: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address
63623c15
kernel: current->tss.cr3 = 08bf5000, %cr3 = 08bf5000
kernel: *pde = 00000000
kernel: Oops: 0002
kernel: CPU: 1
kernel: EIP: 0010:[smp_local_timer_interrupt+92/304]
Short and simple: put he FSB back to standard settings, and you
shouldn't have any problems.

I am currently running redhat 6.1 on my pentium machine.
I would like to know how can i setup my printer in linux. I have a HPdeskjet

printer connected to my computer. I have my printer connected to lpt 1.
My second question is that how can i recompile my kernel. I don't want to
upgrade, i just want to recompile it so that i can burn CD's uing xcdroast
program.
Is there a graphical interface that i can use to recompile my kernel?

I know. But BobC was claiming that you can simply measure Volts and
Amps to determine the power consumption of the PC. I tried to show
that this is not true

Not quite right. I measured RMS Volts and RMS Amps, so there is no
need for the sqrt(2) factor. What we need to know is the cos(phi)

ACK. Thats my point.

Yes.

Well, a phase-shift of 75 degrees will do the trick. Its just one of
those standard PSUs they built into desktop PCs three years ago. I
dont think the taiwanese engineers were really concerned about
compensating for blind current, they just designed it to be cheap.
> If possible, make your measurements with ALL the equipment connected at once, thereby
I have.

I know.

Voltage: 2000VAC range, accuracy: +-4% +5 digits. worst case: 230-10-5=215V
Current: 2AmpsAC range, accuracy: +-2% +1 digit. worst case:0.9-.018-.001=0.881A
So this would give: 215*.881=192.058 VA
The power meter is a processor-controlled, voltage- and current-
integrating device, its specs say its accuracy is better than
10%, so the worst case would be 55+5.5 = 60.5 Watts. Still a 3:1
ratio.
> As a first guess, I'd say your current reading was way off. Second guess would be

I measured the current with the better, true RMS-meter, because i
checked the voltage with an oscilloscope and noticed it was a really
good sine wave, no noticeable distortion. I dont have a two channel
oscilloscope at hand, so i cannot directly measure the phase shift,
this would clear all up.
> power meter, even though the value it gives is at the low end of reasonable for a
No. My PCs are all in the Pentium 100-200 range and are all in the
55 - 65 Watt range. This is without the monitor, the monitors easily
add 100 Watts to the bill.

When I run SUSEs XF86_Rage128 server for XFree86 3.3.5 the fonts are OK. As
I understand this server is included in XF86_SVGA from 3.3.6, but it

I'm running Debian Potato, and there have been reports of garbeled fonts
with the Debian package of XF86_SVGA for other cards as well.
Any inputs on this one please? I'm not to sure that mixing versions of
XFree86 is a good idea, even though it seems to work ok with the 3.3.5
version of XF86_Rage128.

Hi Steffen,
first, thank you for your answer. I tried to change the settings
but with no effect. I have come to the conclusion that the
message "invalid parameter io" does not mean that the io-adress
is incorrect. It means that the pararmeter "io" is not known by
the module "es1371". So the module has to be loaded with no
parameters. Then it should work, but it doesn't. I always get the
message "device or resource busy". So this seems to be a problem
of Linux and the SB PCI128.
Best greetings from Germany (according to your name I think you
are also german, aren't you?),

Any pointers to information concerining this USB Intel Web Cam

I have the latest versions of both Xmms and Netscape 4.7 for GNOME.
Everything is running fine except that xmms doesn't like to play my mp3s
right. I am getting sound, but it sounds choppy or it has static in
it. This is most evident when I start any application, but more
noticbly with Netscape. I have made the buffer bigger for Xmms and
I have even changed the Output Plugin to the Esound configuration.
I am running a Cyrix MII 333 processor and I have 64M of RAM. That
should be enough to handle all the processes. Well it was in Windows.

If you have the kerneld running, it should be loaded automatically, if
you access any SCSI device.

Because it's not needed. (That's the technique of modules.)

You never compiled your kernel yet. version.h is created during a
compilation of the Linux kernel sources. Just make your own kernel first.
