Hello people.
I have just installed RH6.2 and I am trying to get my Colorado T1000 tape
drive to work (it is floppy based).
I have read the docs, compiled the kernel, tried the RPMs, and tried to
compile the ftape (4.02) but nothing works!
It is so frustrating. When I try compiling the ftape, I get a:
In function 'fdc_interrupt_wait':
structure has no member named 'timeout'
structure has no member named 'timeout'
Any ideas? Are there other drivers other than ftape?
Please send any replies to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] because
I can't always use the newsgroups. (remove "removespam_")
Thanks!

Not yet. Soundblaster is working on it. They should be releasing it
very soon in binary format only.

I've tried searching Deja News, using the ALSA drivers, etc. The best I
can do is get the modules to load. If I play something, no sound comes
out. :-(
Using Linux 2.2.12's es1370 I get "device busy", and using es1371, apps
freeze when playing sounds. I then tried ALSA's driver; Apps (like xmms)
seem to be playing, but nothing comes out (I didn't forget to unmute).
I've tried different settings in /etc/conf.modules, but nothing helps.
My current settings give me an error opening /dev/audio. :-(
Here's my /etc/conf.modules:
alias eth0 3c59x
alias sound snd-card-ens1371
And lsmod's output:
Module Size Used by
3c59x 19112 1 (autoclean)
snd-card-ens1371 1804 0 (unused)
snd-ens1371 9292 0 [snd-card-ens1371]
snd-pcm 30328 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd-timer 8800 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-ac97-codec 23104 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd-mixer 27632 0 [snd-ens1371 snd-ac97-codec]
snd-rawmidi 9624 0 [snd-ens1371]
snd-seq-device 3272 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd 37036 1 [snd-card-ens1371 snd-ens1371 snd-pcm
snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mixer snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore 2372 2 [snd]
What am I missing? Should I enter additional options in
/etc/conf.modules?
BTW, the sound card is in the lowest PCI slot. And the BIOS has it set
for IRQ 11.
Any suggestions would be *really* appreciated. :-)
Thanks,
js.

Anyone using the HP LaserJet 1100 ?
It's not listed as supported under the HW-HowTo
I think it's compatible with the discontinued LaserJet 6L (and hence
supported) but I'm not sure.

Silly question, but like many I have bought an Optra 40
from the buy.com clearance sale.
The manual directs you to use the "load printer cartridge"
utility from the driver to make the cartridge holders move
to where you can load them.
I'm on a Linux box, any way to make them move over manually?

You might have other problems with your hardware, then. I'm using the
AudioPCI in a fairly generic K6-III box, and it works fine with both
Debian and RedHat (after compiling the kernel with AudioPCI support, mind
you; this is not using the OSS sound modules). I can run XMMS, xmcd,
mpg123, etc. with no problems at all -- no stutter, flutter, or noise.
You might also consider that you have not enabled user-access to the
/dev/dsp and /dev/audio entries. A good way to test this is to try
running your sound programs as root, then try again as a user. If you
can't get playback as a normal user, you need to do a chmod on the dsp
and audio entries.

Hmm.. I don't have any experience with the mchine you mentioned, but did
you compile the kernel yourself?
There are some options you can set at compile time for how the PCI scan
is done.. there are
some bugfix and reverse compability options in there.. take a look..
Maybe you get it woring when you compile
the kernel with different PCI settings..

I disable plug n play in the BIOS setup before LILO boots (of course,
you only have to do it once). Supposedly you can use setpci from within
Linux to set the interrupt, but it doesn't work for me.
So far, I haven't noticed any problems in win98 with plug n pray turned
off. Everything seems to work just as well as before even with the
shared IRQs.
As far as kernel upgrade, I've never done it. Maybe you should try
ltmodem565a first, since it apparently (I haven't tried it) works for
2.2.5 and above.

Current wisdom says that CD's burned on PC's may or may not be read
properly on some older drives. You may want to lurk alt.comp.periphs.cdr
for a bit. Or maybe check out:
[copied from a post on a.c.p.c:]
http://resource.simplenet.com/
CDR resource from Mike Richter's site.
http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/
Large and somewhat technical FAQ "The Bible" to some here ; - )
Oddly, rewritables are supposed to be harder for older readers to
handle, but your experience is exactly the opposite.
The usual advice on a.c.p.c is to try a different brand of CD, slower
writing speeds, etc. FWIW, I personally have copied some of my vinyl
(remember LP's?) onto audio CD's that play on my ancient stereo system
and even on my sub-$100 portable player, using cheapo CompUSA CD-R's.
Neither playback machine can even detect tracks on CD-RW's, though.
I always thought there was a little magic involved in CD's anyway.

I can't find the original thread on this...
Someone asked about Linux on a Brio BA200.
Video required the i810 XFCom driver from http://support.intel.com/ (2d
only). It shares memory with the PC, so your usable memory will be
PC_mem-video_mem. (28M in my case since I have 32M and the video mode I
use needs 4M. I think I'll get another 32M or 64M soon.)
The model I bought didn't come with a modem, so I bought a modem after
reading about them at http://www.linmodems.org/
I was able to get sound on the Brio BA200 to work by using the i8x0
driver using the ALSA drivers (http://www.alsa-project.org/).
I also got printing in ECP mode to work by setting specific values for
port, irq and dma in the BIOS setup. EPP mode and bi-directional work
fine in "auto" mode.
So yes, the Brio BA200 makes a pretty good Linux machine--especially
when a 3d version of the i810 video driver comes out.
Now if I can just get my scanner working (http://hpoj.bstc.net).

Hmmmmm I read somewhere that the kernel was supposed to detect the hp 610c
series printers and that I should have no problem installing it. Well I am
typing this therefore what I wrote was not absolutly right. Or maybe I am a
moron. Hmmmmm I hope that my first choice is true.
well that said, this is the reason of my problem:
I got kernel 2.2.12 and Redhat 6.1
an hp 612c Deskjet printer...
apsfilter (didn't work..
1st my printer wasn't there so I chose the closest
match but it said that it could find anything on that port so I changed
port and still nothing....)
I was able to print from a previous installation of RH6.1 from WP8, and
from an instalation of S.U.S.e 6.0
So I don't see why it isn't working right now. If oyu can please help me, I
would be happy cause I could finaly print from linux and wouldn't have to
boot up any friging Ms Os's that eat up my resource....
PS: It might be a port problem..... I am not shure...

I have tried selecting each device in kppp but all have similar problems.

The best that's currently available is OSS (Open Sound System). It functions
very poorly, but it's something. And if you want to make it work for more
than 3 hours, you have to buy the commercial version.
I suggest either:
1. Wait for someone to develop a good driver
2. Write a driver yourself
3. Use a different soundcard.
Option 3 is a last resort as you probably want to access the XG
functionality of the sound card. I have a Yamaha WF192XG card and I am
looking at option 2.
Don't forget to go to www.libralinux.com/petition.english.html and sign the
petition to demand hardware manufacturers to either release information that
would enable developers to write drivers or to write the drivers themselves.

Hello everybody,
I have a CPU-board with 2 x PIII-500. I installed SUSE 6.2 on it. It was
installed, and the CPU monitor in KDE only showed me one CPU. So I concluded
that the basic installation of SUSE doesn't use the 2nd processor (Is this
so?).
So, I recompiled my Kernel, but still I can see only 1 CPU in the
CPU-monitor. How can I be sure that Linux uses the 2 processors? And what
must I do in order to make them work?
Thanks in advance,
