Does anyone know if the Allied Telesyn AT-2700 network card is supported in
linux? I don't know what chip set this board is using and I don't see any linux
reference for this board in the company web page. I'm trying to find a board
that will run 100 Base-FX (100 mbit fiber optic). The only other card I found
is the 3COM 3C905B. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be interested in
hearing them.
Thanks,
Ron

Since it always happens at about the same time, look at what cron jobs
are set to run at that time.
Also look at other machines in your network to see if they want to do
something at about that time.

: (and willing to share this experience ;-)
: Is it supported by standard SCSI/tape drivers in Solaris/Linux?
: Does it really have "advertised" performance?
: Which vendors to choose? Etc. etc. etc.
: Any information will be appreciated,
I currently use a Seagate AIT2 (actually made by sony I believe).
And it works great. There is support for them under solaris -- not
sure about linux. Basically all you need to do is add a couple of
lines to your st.conf file and re-boot. I'm getting close to the
maximum compression and pretty fast ~12M/s. No problems either,
not like my old 8mm or dat drives. In short I wholeheartly
recommend it.

Hi
I am a recent Linux person, I have installed the Corel Linux distribution
because I have heard that it is the easiest to start with.
Once I finished installing this (Intel) everything seemed OK. Problem is I
have no sound card or Ethernet card
The Ethernet card is a 3com 3c509
The Soundcard is a Soundblaster AWE64 (OEM)
I have spoken to various people but know one seems to be able to give me the
definitive answer!
Could someone let me know how to check what devices are loading and what
command line information to type to enable these devices.
I have written down the Win98 settings for these as its a dual boot system
Thanks in advance

I also forgot to mention a third reason which I haven't pursued
IRQ conflicts further. The serial HOWTO recommends
as part of the troubleshooting process, to use "setserial" to configure
the ports to use IRQ 0. This is a flag which says to use a polling
mechanism rather than interrupts. This requires more CPU, but
should clearly identify any problems due to IRQ conflicts. I set both
ports, ttyS2 and ttyS3, to use IRQ 0, with no improvement. This leads
me to think it is some other conflict or configuration problem.
Someone let me know if I drew the wrong conclusion.

Yup, tried the alias statement in modules.conf. same result.
I'm pretty sure once I get it working i'm going to slap myself for the
silly error, but I just haven't found it yet...

Can some kind soul give an idea of how Red Hat Linux 6.x can be made
to work with a Greystone GS-120 PCMCIA card dock (an ISA card that's
made to take PCMCIA cards like notebooks do -- I hope to recycle my
relatively large collection of PCMCIA cards!) in simple words?
[It appears that no PCMCIA reader was recognized; nothing shows in

I've been downloading the various 2.3.x kernels to see where RAID/1/4/5 was
removed, so far haven't found it. Of course at 19-23 MB per file, it's going
to take a while :^)
BTW what type drives are you using? I've used nothing but Maxtor drives for
years, but have seen a couple posts about Maxtors not working with the
Promise udma66 controller.

You've configured you system to run the ypbind daemon and it's complaining
that it can't find an NIS (yellow pages) server. I'm guessing you probably
don't need NIS, and if this is enabled I'm guessing that a lot of other
services you don't need are probably running too. I don't have experience
with Caldera, but you should probably be able to shutdown these services
(and keep them from starting each time you boot) with their configuration
utility Lizard.

For mine, the manual says to use the HP Laserjet IIp as a second choice
for the kx-p4410 (as I did back in the days of win3.1). It kinda workds
OK (at least with the test page printing). My main problem is lack of
memory. I'm going to have to upgrade, I guess. Luckily, it'll only set
me back $90.

OK, so now I have a follow up question. I thought it was working since
it appeared to be printing (at least sort of) using the test page
feature of RH6.1's printtool. The only problem I ran into was due to
low memory. However, since then, I've tried to set it up with Samba,
but, alas I have failed. I also tried to print a text file from the
prompt (outside of kde) and it too kind of fails. For instance, I sent
a command to print a text document:
lpr text.txt
Since there is only one printer, I figured this would work. However, it
returns the following statement:
bash: /home/dressel/.bashrc: Permission denied
dressel is my account on the machine, though it give this same error
regardless of whether I am logged as root or as dressel. Would this be
a permissions error somewhere? I have done nothing to the files that
Red Had supposedly set up when I installed the printer.
In any case, I thought that this problem may have related to the Samba
problems. I'm definitely no expert here, so any help is great!
In the future, I'd like to try a different printer que. I tried for
kicks to install pdq, but I have thus far been unable to get it to print
anything.
Cheers,
Kevin

The K6-III is the one with the on-die L2 cache; the K6-2 has no L2 cache at
all. Most motherboards for these processors have 512K-1M (sometimes as much
as 2M) of cache running at FSB speed; this cache serves as L2 cache with the
K6-2, but L3 cache with the K6-III.
I wouldn't characterize the K6-2 as being significantly slower than a PII; I
didn't notice much of a difference between them, at least at slower speeds
(my Linux server runs a 300-MHz K6-2).
