Ok, That works, I've downloaded the src package and the making process goes
well.
But when the driver is loaded, I get a segmentation fault...
Any idea?

I'm using Linux Mandrake 7.1 and really would like to get my soundcard
working. Here is what happens:

I enter Hard Drake and find my soundcard (SB Live) and press the test
button. The .WAV (of a guy who's barely understandable) comes on with
no problems. Upon hitting Ok, I get the following message:
=======================================
sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': No such device
=======================================

I've checked my /dev directory, and the device does exist there. The
permissions and details on the file are:
==============================================
dsp lrw------- dragonia audio 0 18.06.2000

If anyone can help point me in the right direction, it would be greatly
appreciated.

I'm trying to use an HP C1537A DDS3 tape drive for backups but
I'm having problems persuading the system that it has a 12GB

DUMP: estimated 1190181 tape blocks on 30.59 tape(s).

Not good!

I've tried using "mt setdensity" and stinit but it appears to make
no difference.

Netscape in 16MB on a 486? Yeah rite. On that kind of system the best you can do with
Linux is
a coupal of virtual consouls and LYNX.

"Run pretty well on 486/66's" to Linux users means "You can run LYNX in text moad to

You can iether use Netscape, which requiars more RAM and a faster CPU, or you can use
AREENA,
which isnt' finnished and probably never will be.

There are 4 extra keys on the Compaq Armada laptops.
Those keys must be inserted in the tables.
Maybe it would be better with a new CONFIG parameter!

Since I have installed RedHat V6.2 linux (fresh install - replacing

For instance, when installing an RPM from cd-rom with -ivh, you will get
####, then the lost interrupt error(s).

The system is a P133, Intel FX triton M/B with 2 x hdd on primary and
cd-rom on secondary IDE port. Has any one encountered this same
problem?. Note this problem did not occur on RedHat v5.1 on the same
system. There is no problems reading cd-rom for dos or win95 (was able

If the problem's related to DPMS, have you tried disabling DPMS in
/etc/XF86Config?

That's one hell of a monitor! (Hint: Vertical refresh rates are in Hz,
not MHz.)

>and I'm runnin XFree86 3.3.5. Please help, this is very annoying.

The DPMS signal is controlled by the graphics card. What make/model of
graphics card are you using? And have you tried inputting the Hsync and
Vsync ranges of the monitor directly into xf86config/SaX/Xconfigurator/
XF86Setup? Those ranges are in your monitor's manual, horizontal in KHz,
vertical in Hz. Another thing to try is to update your Xfree86 to the
latest version (3.3.6) and see if the problem goes away.

I am looking to buy the parallel port Zip drive from IOMega to use on
both a SuSE Linux PC and a Windows PC. Obviously the drive should be
easy to set-up for the Windows PC but according to my SuSE manual its
somewhat more complicated with Linux and requires SCSI hard drive
support and then can be accessed in the same way as a SCSI hard drive.
However, given that I have an IDE system I am somewhat confused and
would appreciate any further information on the subject.

I just bought a 10 Gb IDE drive for some extra storage in my
RH6.0 machine. I can partition it wonderfully with fdisk.
It's currently partitioned as one 800M VFAT partition (for Win95),
a 3Gb FreeBSD partition, a 670Mb Linux partition, and an
extended partition with a couple of logical Linux partitions.

Everything worked when installing Win95 and FreeBSD in their
respective partitions. However, when I tried to make Linux
filesystems in the Linux partitions with mke2fs, I got an
error message: "/dev/hdb3: Invalid argument passed to ext2
library while setting up superblock".

I have ver. 1.18 of the e2fsprogs package, which is the latest
I could find (dated Nov 99) and am runnning kernel 2.2.14.
Does the above error message mean that I am SOL as far as
accessing this drive from Linux?
