Well, then the card isn't an NE2K compatible. What model realtek is it?

Hello all,
Do you know if Linux 2.2 support RAID 0, like,

"ABIT HOTROD 100 Pro - AH100 - ULTRA/ATA 100 - PCI IDE Raid Controller -
Ultra DMA 100MB/sec data transfer rate"

TIA,

Is there a distribution of Linux that will work on the SUNPCI card. For
thouse of you who are not familier with Sun Hardware the SUNPCI card is
a AMDK6 Chip on a PCI Card so you are able to nativly run windows in
solaris. I would like to get Linux to work on the card instead so I can
have the advantages of Solaris for the Ultra Sparc and Linux for the
Intell chip.

Thanks

Yes, I only want to use it for linux. So how to do it? Thanks.

Peter,

As the current maintainer of LILO, I just about fell over when I saw your
posting. This is a glaring omission from the 'lilo.con' man pages. Somehow
is has slipped by many a distribution of LILO.

The 'initrd=' loads the "initial ram disk." This usually consists of modules
needed at boot time, but not compiled into the kernel. Most frequently the
modules loaded are SCSI drivers and Network card drivers. There are so many
interface boards now, that it is not possible to include all of them in a
useful "general" kernel.

May I point you at the cross-reference man page "mkinitrd".

The omission will be corrected in the next LILO release. Thank you for your
posting.

It sounds like Linux is attempting to mount your CD-ROM automatically and
there is no disc in the drive. Do you get these messages when you boot with
media in the drive? Automatic mounting at boot time is handled in the fstab
file. You could take the entry for the CD-ROM out of the fstab file and just
mount the CD-ROM manually whenever you need to. If you decide to leave the
entry in fstab then there must be media in the drive when you boot.

I have used ATAPI CDROMs since kernel 1.2.13 and never had any
problems. I recently used 2.2.16 and now 2.4.0-testx. There is
nothing wrong with the driver.

If the problem were present on only one machine I'd say it is most
likely due to some hardware problem (maybe as simple as incorrect
jumper setting on the CDROM) but since it occurs on multiple machines
(and presumably with different CDROMs?):

In your kernel config, have you selected ISO9660 file system support?
If its a module, does it get loaded?

You may also want Joliet extensions and Codepage-437 or -850 and
NLS ISO 8859-1. You find that in the kernel config under:
    Main Menu --> File Systems --> Native Language Support

Can you do manually:

    mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /mnt

You could also try to put the CDROM on the secondary IDE controller,
it would then become /dev/hdc. Make sure jumpers are set correctly.

Hi,

I've recently updated my machine to an Athlon 850 on a Abit KA7-100
motherboard.

Since I've done this the mouse pointer erratically moves to the top right of
the screen and will stick there for about 15 seconds then I can use it
again.

The only thing I can think of is something to do with interrupts ?

I'm using an PS2 Microsoft IntelliMouse. This set-up used to work fine on
my
old PII 233.

Pushing the mouse wheel forward seems to unfreeze the mouse !

Thanks for any help,

Andy Campbell

When I run 'xawtv', it always errer with
'/dev/video' incorrect or errer.

/dev/video is linked video0

Dear Jrgen

Thanks.

How can I config the pcmcia to use irq 3 ?
Also what somethings else should I done in order that
the lan will be up, such as setting in the conf.modules,
pcmcia config, pcmcia network script and / or normal
network startup scripts ?

I remembered that after the installation, the pcmcia was using
irq 3. However, when I unmark the exclude irq 3 in the pcmcia
config file, the device changed to irq 11 even I added exclude irq 11.
Afterward, I remark again the exclude irq 3, the card seem to be
not using irq 3.

Can you send some of the related config files and startup script
(network, pcmcia, conf.modules) for my referrence ?

Thanks again.

Personally, I don't like any of Intels current 8XX chipsets and am
avoiding them completely. The (next generation?) of dual boards from
SM and other seem to be using the ServerWorks chip sets. SM recently
started adv. 3 dual (370) boards with SW chipsets, all having at least 2
64x66 PCI and all use SDRAM. This doesn't solve the 840 problem, but
the future looks better.

You probably need to update your package modutils. Documentation/Changes

Hmmm.... I've never had a problem booting from SCSI drives. I've even
booted from SCSI with an IDE drive attached. Really no problem. As
for RAID, I'm using an Mylex Acceleraid set up with RAID5 4x10K 9.1 IBM
drives set up with two partions (due to 1024 cycl limit); one for /boot
and one for /root. This boots just fine. I use RH 6.2 and it installed
right out of the box. This should work for any hardware raid and it sets
up just like anything else. My lilo.conf looks like this:

boot=/dev/rd/c0d0 <- this is the raw drive
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
serial="0,9600n8"
prompt
timeout=50
message=/etc/lilo.message

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.16
        label=l2216
        append="console=ttyS0,9600"
        read-only
        root=/dev/rd/c0d0p2             <- this is the /root

/boot is on /dev/rd/c0d0p1

The second SCSI controller is an Adaptec:
  Swap is on                     /dev/sda1 - 10K 4G Seagate
  Another ext2 file system       /dev/sda2
  Yet Another ext2 file system /dev/sdb1

Note that the Mylex DAC960 driver is not SCSI, but a block device which is
much more efficient and that it has a different set of device names.

Also, while RH did install just fine, it did not get the 1st lilo.conf line
(raw drive) correct. It tried to put it on /dev/sda (boo hiss)

Best
