Hi Rob
Had a problem like that once, way back with my bjc 4100, it got fixed
when i recompiled my kernel with support for every parallel port
setting which was presented when i did the "make config" thing
perhaps you should give it a try
good luck

Unrot13 this;
Reply to: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Hi all;
I stopped by friday night and picked up one of those CueCats from my
local radio shack.
Then I dld'd the driver from a freshmeat link, and installed it.
But, I patched the 2.2.17 kernel tree, not 2.2.16 which the patch claims
to be against. The patch didn't express any errors, and the only thing
that seems to have died is 'make xconfig', as I now have to 'make
menuconfig'.
I added the CueCat drivers and hooks and recompiled & rebooted.
As near as I can tell, it all went without errors, but read_cuecat
doesn't.
Having destroyed a /dev/device before, I thought maybe I had better cat
/dev/scanners/cuecat to see if it was still 'c 10 199'.
Imagine my surprise when everything I had scanned was output, and cat
was hung, not having received an EOF. I scanned some more barcodes, and
they all came out in the cat'd display. I deleted the device and
mknod'd it again, with the same results.
Any idea where I screwed this up?
Also, has anyone else made note of how bright that thing is? I don't
need nightlights in this end of the house anymore!
Cheers, Gene

I have a problem recording to a SAF CDR-4012 (SCSI) connected to a
ncr53c8xx scsi controller. My system is a 233MHz Pentium MMX with RH6.2
Kernel 2.2.14-5.0 installed.
The drive works fine as a normal CDROM and get's thru most of the
burning process without error - however, when it gets to fixating i get
the following message:

Hello,
I'm trying to map the scan codes of unused keys on my keyboard to X
keycodes. I can do this in Linux using setkeycodes, but it doesn't work
under X. The man page for setkeycodes says:
The keycodes of X have nothing to do with those of Linux.
Unusual keys can be made visible under Linux, but not under X.
Ok, so how can I do this under X? Does this require a hack to the XF86
source?
Thanks,
Steve
PS. No, xmodmap/xev is not what I'm looking for... This comes _after_
the above is accomplished.

Have you read the installation notes for RedHat? Have you run fdisk or
Disk Druid during install? You would select which drive(s) you want to
partition in one of those two utilities. Also be sure to set /
bootable, etc.
I'd really suggest reading the installation notes thru at least once
before even attempting to install any OS.

I had this one with a ricoh drive, connected to one of those cards. In my
case replacing that ncr POS with a adaptec card fixed the problem.
Maybee faulty card? have had all sorts of trouble with those ncr based
cards before so suspect driver issue.

Subject: Fujitsu MO block size bafflement
Hi all,
I'm contemplating the purchase of an external SCSI Fujitsu 1.3 GB magneto
optical drive to use with a Linux kernel 2.2 (Debian potato)
installation. I'm trying to find out if one can use such a MO drive with
media that has 2048 byte sectors with Linux.
All Fujitsu MO drives with media > 540 MB have 2048 block sizes. 540 MB
and below have 512 bytes blocks or come unformatted, so they are supported
by default. I'd like to use a 1.3 GB Fujitsu GigaMO, so this compatibility
issue is important to me.
One would think that you could simply create a new partition table, mke2fs
and mount the removeable drive media.
Judging from the mke2fs and mount man pages, it seems that the mke2fs
command will work with block sizes != 1024 bytes. And it seems that mount
will work as well. The e2fsck man page states that file systems with block
sizes != 1024 bytes can be checked as well, by using the appropriate
command line switches.
What I want to know is: can a file system with blocks != 1024 bytes be
fixed with fsck by retrieving one of the alternate superblocks?
I have found a MO drive HOWTO at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Optical-Disk-HOWTO.html
but it's in a pre-alpha stage and very incomplete.
Does anyone have any opinion on how dificult it would be to use one of
these non-standard block size drive/media combinations with kernel 2.2?
And is fsck the only possible problem here?
Thanks!

I don't know what exactly is wrong, but will try to help.
Can you get a console with CTL+ALT+F2?
If so, log in as root and exec "init 1". If this works, after you get the
prompt, exec "init 3".
After you get login, log in as root and exec "XF86Setup", and follow
instructions: answer "y" or press RETURN, etc.
This should bring up "X" as VGA and allow you to configure it.
I hope this works.

Okay... currently HighPoint's website says that the RAID option won't
work with Linux on the HPT-370.
Of course, someone might have a workaround somewhere...?

FAQ repository PLEASE!
Standard method for PCI modem (I know nothing about your modem)
As root execute:
lspci -v | less
Find your modem in the output. This should give you:
I/O ports at <ioport>
IRQ <irnumber>
Then execute:
setserial /dev/ttyS2 port <ioport> irq <irnumber> autoconfig
If this works, put this instruction in your rc.serial script.
or, get the driver:
serial-5.04.tar.gz from SourceForge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/serial/
Move it to "/usr/src" (as root) and unpack and install in the usual
manner.
