I got this from the hpoj.sourceforge.net project:

******** start script *********
#!/bin/sh

# This script takes data on standard input,
# prepends and appends PJL wrapper commands,
# and writes to standard output.

echo -en "^[%-12345X@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL\n^[E"
cat
echo -en
"^[E^[%-12345X"
******** start script *********

Thought it might help. Note that you can't cut-n-paste the above
script, since it contains control characters that have been converted to
ASCII. Download the tarball at:

http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/download/hpoj-0.6.tgz

and look in the hpoj-0.6/scripts directory after you untar it.

weird, the linksys/pnic/tulip cards from my linksys kit which
unexpectedly ended up in the same computer work quite nicely:

tulip.c:v0.91g-ppc 7/16/99 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
eth1: Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 33 at 0x6a00, 00:A0:CC:XX:XX:XX, IRQ 1Y.

eth2: Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 33 at 0x6800, 00:A0:CC:YY:YY:YY, IRQ 1X.
eth2: MII transceiver #1 config 1000 status 7809 advertising 01e1.

in fact one of them is not connected at the time, but configuration
works fine.

Oh, no. my linksys and my rtl and the rhine did that, too; it
_may_ have been the fault of the misconfigured 3c905b that tried
to do full duplex on a hub, though ... I ended up patching donald
becker's diag tool to reprogram it's eprom from a working card
(inventing a MAC in the process :-)). Well, since at least two
of the cards now work fine on a switch, it probably was that.

ObLockedCards: it's a PITA if you have to do a (while (true);
do network restart; sleep 1; done) to burn a CD over nfs ...

I was able to fix this problem. I changed the AGP frame (or whatever is
it called) in the BIOS to 256 MB and it worked. I do not understand why
is it required as it was working fine in Windows 98 with 64 MB setting.
I have 128 MB RAM in my system.

Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 19:32:43 GMT

Hello,

I am using an Aptiva computer and I'm considering installing Linux on my
computer. I have read some documentation on Linux, and learned about the
fact that Linux doesn't support IBM's Microchannel Architecture. I have
no good idea about what it is, but since I am using an IBM product I
thought it could apply to me as well. But the problem is, I can't find
any clear information on this topic. I looked up some information on my
mother board, and found out it has part number/model number V70MA. It
uses Micro-(ATX) Form Factor (whatever that may be). I am not sure what
these data mean, but I was wondering whether MA and Micro-A* are synonym
to Microchannel.

I am using an Aptiva 2153-E45. Product specifications can be found at
http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/DETR-3WEGQA.html .

Maybe there is somebody out there that is using the exact same Aptiva
model or at least the same mobo and has been successful at running Linux
on it. Or somebody could tell me more about Microchannel Architecture;
what it is, until when it was used, what kind of systems are/were using
that system or what restrictions and/or possibilities the combination
Microchannel Arch. and Linux will create.

Many thanks in advance,

Michiel

I have never seen any HOWTO or Guide or utility that explains setting up
IRQ usage or even checking the IRQ usage. I would like to know how to
do this. Do I need a command to do this, edit a file, or do I need a
utility? My situation is that I have a mix of ISA pnp and PCI hardware
and they are all squirrelly. Each one is finnicky about IRQs and I have
one card that is currently unrecognized (I think). I want to check what
card is using what IRQ and possibly reassign IRQs to accomodate all of
my hardware.

thanks for help,

Hey,
I've been playing w/ my sparc 690MP and noted that the cpu board has an
audio plug (looks like the 8pin mini-din connector on my slc), but it's
covered over w/ a chrom plug on the external side. I'm wondering if the
690 hardware supports audio, and whether sparc/linux supports it? Just
curious...

Subject: Using IDE CDROM and CDRW drives at the same time
Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 21:17:46 GMT

Can someone recommend the best way to use my two CD Drives at the same
time under Linux withought getting constant error messages in dmesg.

I recently installed an IOMEGA CDRW drive in my machine to go with my
old BTC CDROM Driver. They are configured so that

CDRW - Secondary Master (hdc)
CDROM - Secondary Slave (hdd)

Following the instructions in the CD-Writing HOWTO I compiled my kernel
(2.2.17) with the appropriate modules (ide-cd and ide-scsi etc)

I also configured my conf.modules to for ide-cd to ignore hdc (the RW
drive) and put the append commands in my lilo.conf for hdc to be used
by ide-scsi.

For some reason I can only use ide-cd or ide-scsi at any point in time,
which is a bit of a problem if I want to copy data off an existing CD-
ROM. Also the various CD copying tools won't work if the source cd is
IDE rather the emulated SCSI.

I then tried having both drives using ide-scsi and typing insmod ide-
scsi only finds the CDROM drive (hdd) and I never get to see the RW
driver (hdc).

Now surely I am not alone in having two IDE CD drives on the same bus,
one of which is a RW. What recommendations do you have?

Steve.

PS. The drives do work under Windoze, but I can't do anything else
while they are copying. Under Linux I can we browse and work while a
copy is in process.

Michiel,
1: there is some support for Linux on Microchannel
2: your machine does not have the Microchannel architecture.

Just look for a decent Linux distribution and install it, should work
without too much troubles.

What's up,

I recently bought a cheap computer. Being a cheap computer, it has a
HSP56 Pctel micromodem working with an i810 Intel motherboard. I know
there is some degree of compatitbility with Linux for the winmodem (I
have SuSe 7.0). That, of course depends on other hardware issues. I
compiled the kernel module which I downloaded, configured the irq and
i/o port issues using setserial, etc. So, when I go to see if the
modem will work with kppp, wvdial, or something. It says that the modem
is busy. I don't know what to do from here? Do I just need to get off
my poor, lazy ass and buy a real modem?

Any ideas?

Thanks
