I'm having a similar problem with the new Microsoft Intellimouse
Optical trackball - this has PS/2 & USB connectors. Under
Suse 6.4, I've had nothing but problems on the USB connector-
(there is a USB module, but the manual does warn that
there are a lot of problems).
On the PS/2 connector, I've gotten it to boot and
work right with gpm, but I've still can't get it working
right under X/KDE (both from Suse 6.4). Can someone quote
the XF86Config settings or point to something on the web?
Is it possible that X/KDE does not yet support this protocol?
(I've tried shutting down gpm as suggested by another post,
but it doesn't help. Also, Suse does not seem to have
the mousetool app - at least not by that name).
Also, I tried fiddling with the install software, and
the Intellimouse Optical trackball seemed to work there.

Notes: in fiddling with this problem it has been *very* easy
to get the system in a state where it boots fine, but at the
login prompt the *keyboard is disabled* and it is impossible
to go any further - the fix requires a warm or cold power
reboot and you have to watch it fsck'ing for several minutes
very frustrating. It also has been difficult to fall back to
an earlier configuration using a MS serial mouse(Kensington
trackball) on COM1 which was working fine before.
All the hardware works properly when booted under another OS.

Found the problem: /dev/audio existed so applications used it instead of
/dev/dsp. Removed /dev/audio and everything started to work!

The $299 price includes a 17 inch monitor. $199 without.

If you got a floppy disk with the card put it into the drive. Look for a
Linux folder or readme file. My D-Link DFE 530TX+ uses the Realtec and
possibly the Tulip drivers. But It's all on the floppy that came with
the NIC. Another idea is www.dlink.com.

Hope this helps,

The first time I ever used Linux was on a 486 DX2 50. I used Slackware,
still use it too. I don't know if Slackware comes precompiled for a
Pentium or not. If memory serves me right, it asks what type of
processor you have during install. I could be wrong about that. As soon
as I copy the rest of my hard drives to cdr I'm going to install the
lastest Slackware, so I guess I'll find out.

Just a slacker,

I have a PS/2 mouse connected to serial port (COM1 or ttyS0).
Of course it is connected via RS232-PS/2 adaptor. In Win98 this mouse
is working (and in device manager is shown as "PS/2 compatible mouse"),
but on Linux box I can't use it. I tried to gpm -t ps2 -m /dev/ttyS0
, -t ms an some other but it fails.

Right, in RedHat7 USB devices are in subdirectory /dev/usb/, so USB
printers are /dev/usb/lp0, /dev/usb/lp1 etc.

Yes.

Many Epsons need an initializing "magic string" sent to them before
they produce output. The printer driver normally takes care of this
initialization. Have you checked out www.linuxprinting.org and
www.linux-usb.org ?

Hi-

I am having a problem with a few 3com cards that
the driver says have an Invalid checksum.

I am running kernel 2.0.37 and my hardware is:

Super Micro P6SBA rev. 2.00 Mainboard
3Com 3C905C Network cards

I added the device ID for the 3c905c card
to the 3c59x driver, as it only knew of
905's and 905B's.

Most of the cards work great, although a few cards have
given me the Invalid Checksum error. Other than that the
cards seem to function properly.

I read through the source and found out that that error was
refering to the checksum of the EEPROM but I do not know
what affect an invalid checksum has on the card and was
wondering if someone could tell me.

Unfortunatly, I am unable to update the kernel at this time,
but would appreciate any info people can give me.

Thanks!

Hello All,

I had the printing set up fine in Red Hat 6.2, however since upgrading
to 7.0 I haven't been able to print at all from my computer. I'm not
sure where the problem for this lies. Before testing the printing, I
tried to set up the fax program fax2send (I've since uninstalled it as
best as I can).

I am getting the following error from PrintTool

Error printing test to queue lp0

The printer is there & connected directly to the workstation. I ran
'checkpc -f'

        # /usr/sbin/checkpc -fV | less

And I didn't notice any errors.

in checking /dev though I noticed that the file lp was a bit screwy..

Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Thanks & hope you all have a great new year.

Just a small addition to this. When I restart lpd using the print tool
I can then print ascii directly to the port as per the test in that
program. However the other two print functions are still not working.

Subject: 3D Blaster driver - AGB = PCI??
Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 17:46:07 GMT

I'm about to buy a reasonably nice 2nd-hand PC mostly for Linux.

Most hw seems clearly compatible, but the video card is a
32-megabyte 3D Blaster Savage 4 running off AGB.

I've seen that a driver exists for the same in PCI version,
or at least PCI is mentioned in connection with it.

I also read that Red Hat recognizes the card - but the doubt remains,
as there may be a supported PCI version and an unsupported AGB version

Questions:

Which distros' installers recognize this AGB card?

Is a PCI driver capable to handle the same card in AGB version? Or, is there
a an AGB driver for this card? I couldn't find one in spite of several
searches and following the links from the Creative site.

Should I factor in the need to change video card?

I would like to install Red Hat 6.2 (CD distribution) to one disk connected

implemented in high point 370 chip but in windows drivers). I am able to

cannot find the disk connected to Hot Rod. I am not experienced Linux user
but I suppose I should load some Linux Hot Rod driver from the diskette
(similar like in NT or W2k installation) and I would like to find such
driver. Am I correct in my opinion? If I am correct, I will be very glad if
anybody could help me to find such driver and solve this problem.
