That's the impression that I had received, too. All I can say is that
under 2.2.18, it /doesn't/ work on the 59x module. Apparently (by your
example) this is fixed in 2.4, which is very good.

It might be. Make sure all the sound files in /dev (dsp(1) & audio(1),
there may be some others) are read/write enabled. Try ls -l /dev/dsp
to see.

My father has just reinstalled Mandrake 7.0 after he forgot his root
password (!). His Epsom 670, which used to work with the previous
'Drake 7.0 install, now does nothing. The test page during setup
didn't work, so he thought he'd go back to it later. The machine is a
dual boot W98 situation, and the printer works fine in Windows. His
/etc/printcap file looks like this -

##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL uniprint NaxNA a4 {} U_EpsonStylusColor stcany
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:

- which is exactly the same as mine in RH 6.2.

As I said, it works in Windows, so it isn't cables, etc. Can anyone
tell us where to look. We're both a bit green at this.

I'm using Red Hat 7.0 and I've got a problem with my sound card. The
sndconfig can recognize my sound card (AudioPCI es1371) but reports it is not
supported. I referred to the Red Hat web site and found that my sound card IS
supported and the driver RPM is on the install CDROM. Could someone tell me
where is it? Thanks a lot!

I don't know where it is on the CD but i have got the same sound card and
sndconfig told me exactly the same thing, try visiting
http://www.tuux.co.uk/linux/sb128/ - it's the same chipset :) - it's what I
did with mine and it works fine now

Subject: Silicom USB to ethernet adaptor
Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2000 11:06:39 GMT

Hi...

I own a Silicom USB to ethernet adaptor, and I got it to "work" by patching
kaweth.c (just adding the vendor/device id's)
Now this only works when I reboot out of windows...
If I cold-start in Linux the Kawasaki driver complains about "could not
download firmware - no net device created" (or close to that)
And when I reboot after this , the memory test runs SLOOWWW (I mean that the
boot sequence does not look healthy at all)
Point is, I don't even know if this adaptor USES the kawasaki chip (I just
guessed and it seemed to work at first glance)

But how is it possible that it only works when Windows initialized it first
(One would suspect it to be the other way around ;-)

And about that messed-up boot sequence : does that mean I'm frying the
system and should stop trying to get this adaptor to work ?

I have a Vibra 128 (ES1371) card on a ASUS CUV4X board.
The only way i have found to make it work under linux (2.2.18)
is to disable the plug and play bios, cuz' for some reason it does
not get an interupt assigned to it when it boots into linux. Win98
handles it just fine. `cat /proc/pci` and examine the entry for the
sound card. Under P'n'Pray, it has an address at 0xB0000, but nothing
else; when PnP is disabled it has an interupt and other stuff i cannot
remember...
cheers,

I'm not familiar enough with suse and what they ship as a stock kernel, or
if you recompiled your own, but you may want to check to see if it has
Joliet support either as a module or compiled into the kernel.

It could be udf, but my first _guess_ would be you're missing support for
joliet.

What command are you using to mount it, and what errors are produced
(both at the terminal and in the log files)?

I'm having difficulty getting my Epson 636U scanner to work in

I was given an ICL ErgoPro C/33 PC. It's a pizza box model wird wan ISA
raiser card. I could figure out the following specs:

486SX33 with CPU fan, 3,5" floppy drive, 850 DM Samsung HD, 2 x ISA, 8 x
4 MB 32 pin SIMMs, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, VGA 2 x mini DIN serial,
centronics, TP, AUI on board.
Does anybody happen to know that model? Can I run Linux on it,
particularely does Linux support the NIC? I'd like to get to know more
about the specs of that machine, since I don't have any documentation.
What kind of VGA chip is this? What kind of external cache can one fit
in (there a some strange sockets)? Do the serial ports have FIFO?`Can
one configure the onboard adaptors' addresses? Is there a BIOS, and how
can I access it? Currently it's booting NT 4.0, but I'd like to change
that (I don't have the passwords for the NT installation).
Any hints would be welcome.
