It's frustrating, aint it?
I have been trying also to get a Backpack CDRW to work on RH7.0. I have met
with a bit more success, but still cannot use the drive.

I do know there is a later version of the backpack.o module on
Microsolutions's web site. However, it is for kernel 2.2.16-22. If you
delete the bpck.o module and put the module from Microsolutions in it's
place (as backpack.o) you may get the module to see your drive.

I know also, that scsi emulation needs to be built into the kernel.

I have to reinstall my Linux system, as I have screwed it up somehow. After
I get back on stable ground, I can post more on what I have done so far with
the backpack.

If you get yours working, could you also post what you have done?

Together, we may find a solution.

It's too bad that it doesn't, really... I don't actually care, I just have to do this
for a good grade in my class :)

probly a good idea is to take the modem or the modem box and look for any thing that
will tall you if is a Winmodem or not

I run an Abit KA7 (Athlon Slot A) at UDMA4 with no hdparm setting, data
corruption or other problems. 2.4.x is released but remember it took 18
minor releases to get from stable to 'very, very' stable for 2.2.x.

Thanks for the lead, Chris. I, too, put in an older video card and the
problem went away. Apparently, there are [unreported] problems with our
cards. FYI, the old card I put in is also based on the Virge chip.

I'm disappointed that the Matrox card that I was using is listed as
supported and has such a lethal problem and not just with X. Glad I didn't
just purchase it.

Dan

Subject: Suggestion on Epox Mobo and AMD K7

Hello,

I would like to purchase an Epox EP-8KTA3+ ( I don't need the extra IDE,
but the one without + is not available).

1.Is there a real performance difference between Slot-A and Socket-A
Athlon CPU?

2.Couldn't find any info if the onboard sound would work?

from www.elito-epox.com

If someone has some info about the above.

Thanks for the hint. But "fuser /dev/dsp" says no process is using this
device.
I also tried "apt-get remove", but due to dependencies it wants to remov
88 packages, including Gnome, which I don't want. Can these dependencies
be overridden and is it a good idea?

I really just recompiled the kernel with support for my soundcard. Isn't
there something more I have to set up?

Thanks again,

Subject: error fixating CD-R with cdrecord 1.8, linux 2.2.17
From: Dennis van Dok <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: 05 Mar 2001 23:48:47 +0100

Hi,

I've got a HP CDwriter+ 7200i. Used it before in another system, and
it worked fine. Now I got a lot of errors, possibly buffer underruns,
but the most troubling is that when I managed to get a CD recorded
completely, fixating the disc failed. I'm pretty experienced
troubleshooting stuff and finding my way around all kinds of
documentation, but I couldn't find any helpful hints. Below is the
output of cdrecord, and below that is my dmesg. Suggestions where else
to go for help are welcome too.

deep regards,

Dennis van Dok
