Thanks for that good explanation of what you need from a kernel. Had
you sent it in the first place, I venture to guess you would have
received far more constructive responses from the list, and certainly
from me. 

Now, could you explain furtherm, if the setup is already working, why
are you considering upgrading the kernel? Are there specific bottle
necks that you're running into? 

You might also want to consider redhat's Advanced Server kernel, which
has several patches that might (or might not) make a difference for
your usage. It is geared for databases, but your servers probable
usage patterns sound similar.
