Why would anyone need to click just to bring a window into focus? I
never do that. Whenever I bring the mouse cursos into a window it will
come into focus. I know Windows doesn't have auto-raise (well, Windows
GUI is basically unusable, anyway, though it still has the market
share :), I don't know if Mac does.

Why do you minimize windows at all? I never need to minimize a window.
As a matter of fact, I practically never use the panel (in KDE). It is
hidden 99.99% of the time, and only appears when I want to click on
one of the launch buttons (e.g. for another xterm) that I put there,
maybe a few times a day...

Why is there a shortage of screen real estate in the first place? Ah,
no virtual desktops...

The point here is that the argument is kinda pointless. We are all
creatures of habit to some extent, and we get used to and comfortable
with the tools of trade we use every day. You apparently use and like
Macs, and you are trying to use KDE or whatever in a similar fashion,
and find it wanting. I, on the other hand, am used to virtual desktops
and auto-raise, and I am not used to minimizing windows or clicking on
a window to bring it forward. And when I am stuck with a GUI that does
not have the features I am used to, I will say something like "X
rules, Foo sucks."

So, when someone says that the "magnifying glass" is so cool and
useful, I can understand that in theoretical terms because it remains
a magical mystery to me how Windows users can pick the right icon to
click on their panel when they need a particular window. It does not
impress me though, because "I never minimize windows and I don't
understand why anyone would need to." ;-) [sorry, Herouth, couldn't
resist...]
